Hi. I just brought a new laptop. A Dell XPS 17. I brought this to play call of duty 4. The graphic card I'm using is 3GB NVIDIA® GEFORCE® GT 555M grafikkort. The screen is 17,3".

Now i was going to play Call of Duty 4 on it. I started it up, and when i got into the game there was big black squares on each side of my screen. The resolution was turned on 1024x768. When i tried other resolutions, some of them filled my whole screen, and some did not. I was wondering if there was any way i could autofill my whole screen, with 1024x768, since this resolution doesnt require that much of my computer. (I have turned on the option 4:3)

Another question is: Can i turn on digital vibrance? I dont have the option.

    Thanks :)

Your computer does not have a native 4:3 screen. That used to be a standard some time ago. It is most likely that you have a wide screen which has a native resolution of 1280×720 or 1366x768. You should try these two resolutions if you want the game to fit the entire screen. If you want to use a 4:3 aspect on a 16:10 screen then it is likely that the image will stretch and it may not be pleasant, let alone healthy for your eyes).

You should have no problems running Call of Duty 4 on higher resolutions with that video card (your video card also supports 1920 x 1080 - Full HD). The one that is limiting you is the screen. The screen may not support a Full HD resolution.

In Call of Duty 4 i got to have 250FPS stable :p. Yet i do want the image to strech with, like you are mentioning. I would like 4:3 aspect ratio, with the image streching so there is no black boxes basically :p Is there any program that can do this? :)

    Thanks for reply :D

Well, the problem is that you will not see a difference between 250FPS (the one you have) and 60FPS (the one your screen can output) and I am pretty sure that the GT555m can play the game smoothly at 60FPS at 1366 x 768 resolution.

Please focus on the main problem. I need to get rid of the black squares, and i want my image to be dragged over my screen.

Yet i do need 250 FPS. 250 FPS is quake engine, atleast in cod4 does alot with your movement :p

You cant stretch the laptop's display like you want, You must use an appropriate resolution for your aspect ratio to avoid the black bars.

    List of 16:9 Widescreen Resolutions
    Resolution Name Aspect ratio
    852x480 EDTV 16:9
    1280x720 WXGA 16:9
    1365x768 WXGA 16:9
    1600x900 WSXGA 16:9
    1920x1080 WSXGA 16:9

Are you sure? I did have a widescreen monitor on my old computer which auto sized the image, and streched it out.

Laptop displays are different, What you are talking about is Scaling AFAIK you can't change the scaling on a laptop screen. You can check to see if you can change it through the Nvidia control panel in the DISPLAY section. I know you can't with ATI cards because the option is grayed out until you hook up an external display and then you can use the Scan settings to hide the black bars, but it won't affect the laptop display. Only an external display, but check out the Nvidia control panel see if you can.

This is true, but if you have a 16:9 AR you will have the black bars.

Even if you do have it stretched, the FOV will be all messed up. You need to pick a 16:9 resolution.

I'm aware of that 4:3 aspect ratio will look wierd. Tho I've been using this on my 24" widescreen for the last 2 years, so I'm used to playing like that :p How exacly do i change the Intel HD graphics? :p

Why can't you just use a 16:9 resolution?

The aspect ratio ingame is just general preferences. Either i use 16:10, 16:9 or 4:3, it doesnt change much. It just drags the image more out. But All these 3 ratios still have the same problem, they dont fill out the screen without another resouliton than what is native for my screen

You need to use Intel Control Panel to set the scaling as you Nvidia GPU uses the "fancy" Optimus GPU switching stuff.
I wont start asking for why you want to play in the wrong ratio in a non native resolution but i wish you luck. :D
