Well,put it this way.
Most of the games lately start utilising the core(s) more and more.
If the Orthos test gives the OK, then all other apps should be ok with Undervolting.(I mean, if it passes the worst test of them, anything below that would be ok).

Ya,you are right.I meant a 20 min stress check should be enough in most cases.

nice guide!!!

If anybody has any other tweaks to add, let me know.

Well, generally, mobile CPUs tend to have a higher max temp limit, the T7 series mostly come close to 100C , as do most of the T8 and T9 series...
Your T8100 for example is a 35 W TDP and has a max tollerance of 105C. So safe would be to keep it under 70-75C...
You can easily drop both the TDP and the temps with Undervolting, I cannot stress enough how much that helps overall temps and battery life.
As for the GPU, anything below 85C is considered safe.
But you can always do the basics :
- raise the back of the laptop
- clean the vents and fans for dust every 2 months or so,monthly if you live in a dusty area
- never game on your lap, or cover the vents with fabric
- keep it on a solid surface etc...
I use mine at 600 Mhz and Vista has no problem with that, just yesterday I went a bit over 2 h of battery life with max LCD brightness, which for a 17 inch gaming laptop is very impressive, after close to 1 year of usage. -
Thanks. I really appreciate it. I saved your post for future reference. You know, if you give me a desktop pc I can do what you want from pencil tricks to you name it. With laptops, I always had this feeling that once you open them, you cannot put them back so I never touched them. I doubt I will be able to game with my U6, when they send it from customs. I bought for something else and not for gaming
. As I said, as soon as I have it, I will set it up according to your tutorial.

Had the same feeling when I opened my laptop, so I did a smart thing.
Took pictures of everything before taking it apart -
orderes a inspiron 1720 with
dual core 1.83 1mb cache
160gb sata 5200
nvidia ge force 8600m gt(32 mainstream processors, 128 bits, 256mb own memory and 512mb shared memory)
1gb ram dd2 667mhz
and I want to konw how is going to run new games (call of duty 4, gears of wars) and old games like Call of Duty 2
Please some body(and espert better) give me an answer -
I wanted to overclock my U6 using some tips from this thread and it did not work
. First of all, I tried every PLL in SetFSB and the only one that worked, gave me something weird compared to CPUZ. In any case, no matter what I did, even with this one, I had PLL error and no change was applied.

Well, sadly not all motherboards are compatible or supported.
You can try to look for updates of the program or contact the creator and ask if he could add your specific chipset... -
I see. Thanks for the input.
-
No problem. If you find any other way of determining the PLL, let me know and I`ll update the guide.

.

Yea, but the problem is that some manufacturers have it hidden so that people won't tamper with it.
I will dig in to it,I will eventually find a way to determine the PLL.. -
Awesome guide! +repped

Thank you. If anybody feels there should be something else added, PM and I`ll get right on it(or if you`d like some more info on x or y).

Update : Added Cooling Central link.

Great Guide!
I have few questions about OCing GPU. I've OCed my 8700 SLI from 625/1250/800 to 734/1468/951 but if I try to go any higher like 750/1500/1000 I start getting some artifacts like noise on the screen. I monitor my GPU temps with CPUID HM and I've never had a temp higher that 81C (I get 70C idling). My question is what are the reasons for getting those artifacts, because it doesnt seem to be temp. related since it sometimes happen at temp. lower than 81C. Driver version is in my sig . -
Added more battery maximising tweaks and links.
Temp is still decent, but in case you want to continue OCing, you may want to flash the GPU to a higher voltage. Which all in all is risky and might get you a fried motherboard or GPU.
What is your system? -
Thanks for the reply, eleron911. I found an answer to that some time ago, but I don't think I want to go ahead with GPU overvolting, not yet anyway. Did you have any experience with that?
My computer is in my sig. -

I can't figure out how to use RivaTuner to reduce GPU temps. Is there a guide somewhere? Not sure what to do with 2d pref/low 3d/3d and how to make the selections I make stick. Tried the 2.09 version (latest).
I use ATITool on my desktop, and it's great, but it completely fails to function on Vista on my laptop (Asus M50sv). -
To find those, at laptopvideo2go there is a team dedicated to making ODM specific infs...
Like Pieter or Dox for Dells and Clevos...
If Diefer makes it with the XPS1730...I`d hapily pay 10 or 20$ for it... -
