Wow always thought some of the shots from 3dmark would look fun to play. Just hope it comes with good content.

The other day I saw a Tiberium Vid, ( http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30011.html ) its exceedingly similar to one of those futuremark tests, 'the high tech shoot-out'. Looks slow and boring though, thats probably what I expect from Futuremark in terms of gameplay...

Hopefully Futuremark isn't going to develop anything like this. That looks just another fps game similar to Halo, BF2142 etc. I think they are required to make something original and new, if they want to compete with bigger game developers.

As long as I can use it to provide benchmarks for competing hardware, I'll be fine.

And hey, if it is fun to play, all for the better!

Plus, things well optimized = sexy.

If they're going to use the exact same technology as their futuremark engines in the upcoming game(s) atleast we'll know that they will run great!

As it stands, both AMD, and Nvidia are ALWAYS competing for the all mighty futuremark scores, so I think it'll be the most worked on engine that the hardware developers will actually try and make their products excell in.

Right now, AMD, and Nvidia aren't competing to get the best FPS in the source engine, or the Unreal Engine 3, or the Crytek engine, but they're constantly working on getting the best out of futuremark's tests because it makes their hardware look better to have a higher score, where as on actual game engines they have nothing to standardize their scores.

When you buy a new video card, it never says on there, performance based on the unreal engine, or anything like that, but I know that (atleast on Nvidia 8 series cards) there's a section that says comparison results based on
    3Dmark 06.

I think they verry well have the ability to make a great game, so long as they get good writers for a well done script if they go the path of an RPG, FPS, or anything other than an arcade game...

Well as long as they don't try and make the game 'cutting edge' without offering a good fall-back path.

they do some very interesting and new ways of rendering, but that's better for a benchmark than just game programming. The vertex load in 3Dmk05 is huge in the flying boat segment, and there's reasons to do it that way, especially when applying HDR like in 3Dmk06, but for a game it would be very inefficient and scale poorly.

However if they don't lose focus from it being a game first and a showcase second, then the knowledge they have gained from their benchmark development and their tight relationship to the IHVs should help them, and hopefuly we should have a good game as a result.

While people moan about FPSs, that's what most people want. The success of that genre is something that helps others of the same genre, whereas RTSs and other styles of games usually create niches that are hard to break into.

Anywhoo, more games to the PC is more good news IMO.

They can fail, but I'm glad they're trying.
I just hope they produce something within a few years and not just trailers, because things like Project Offset get you all excited and then little to show for it for quite some time other than forum chatter and rendering demos.
