Hi guys,
I'm new in modern technology of graphics. I've heard about G-Sync - is it worth to pay for that?
Is G-Sync connected with display or with Laptop hardware - I'm wondering why everybody says that GE73 doesn't have G-SYNC nad GT73 has. If I connect external LCD display with G-SYNC may I use this technology having GE73 or not? Is this a problem with iGPU/dGPU?

Couldn't hurt to have it. You can always turn it off if you don't like it.

basically prevents screen tearing at any framerate

And if I have GE73 Raider will I be able to use G-SYNC on external display? -
G-Sync MIGHT work on the external display through DisplayPort if that laptop has a DP port, but not sure how that would work if you have optimus since the iGPU is always used as the final output, there is just a routing layer that is used if there is a determination that the dGPU should be receiving the workload instead, or you can override it per app in the nv control panel. Something tells me G-Sync might not work in this scenario unless the laptop is specifically built with a MUX switch or some software switch.

So many people in this thread spreading misinformation. G-Sync works on external monitor because DisplayPort on MSI notebooks is always connected directly to dGPU, even if inbuilt panel uses Optimus and does not support G-Sync.
And let's not forget, there are Clevos and Alienwares with mux that can manually switch between dGPU only/G-Sync and Optimus on the internal panel.JRE84 likes this. -
oh crap I forgot about display port. yes you are correct, but if you use hdmi then no....thanks alot yrekabakery for reminding me

G-Sync requires DisplayPort anyway. If you plug into HDMI, you won't get G-Sync regardless of how the HDMI port is muxed.

that was my source, Meaker says its not possible....perhaps someone else can chime in
edit are you sure yrekabakery....perhaps you could tell me why you disagree with NBR community -

That's an old Clevo that routes all external display outputs to the iGPU, but it's not the case with MSI.

OIC. thanks for clearing that up, I was certain it was impossible........never hurts to learn something new

So why they use iGPU/dGPU and optimus if it is so problematic? Only to longer the battery usage?

If I have gsync enabled, do I have to turn off vsync and tripple buffering in the Nvidia control panel?
-
Also what about vsync, in game settings? Maybe dumb questions. But if I'm running with gsync on, I want toake sure I'm using it correctly.
