I'm in the market for a new laptop (potentially a P650SG/NP8652), and I already own a g-sync capable external monitor. Will I be able to use g-sync with the external monitor? I searched several places and can't seem to get an answer. I know doing g-sync with the laptop LCD requires a specific set of stars to align. I've heard Optimus is a no-go depending on how the cards are mux'd, but I don't know if that is even a factor on external displays.

Wouldn't it depend on which GPU the display out is connected to?

Are the different hdmi/DP ports connected to different GPU's internally? I'm specifically interested in laptops with the 970m/980m if that's what you are asking.

No I meant whether the display outputs are hardwired to the Intel or Nvidia GPU. Anyway, it doesn't matter as Optimus and G-Sync over external display are mutually exclusive at this time. So far the only confirmed working cases are with non-Optimus (SLI) notebooks so you'd best look into those and not something which is Optimus-only like the P650SG.

Indeed.. Something like the Clevo P750Zm/770ZM, Asus G751JT/JY, MSI GT72 should work properly with your Gync pannel.. main thing is you can't have Optimus in your laptop,.. The NVIDIA dGPU has to drive all the displays!

Thanks for the answers. So no Optimus what so ever, even when using an external display. That's unfortunate =/.
G-sync and external monitor?
