I got the asus G1S with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Now is my question: Will my games run better on Windows XP ?
Because Vista EATS all your RAM and your GPU has to work more on vista then on XP (aero...)

And should i get windows xp 32bit or 64bit then? :)

Turn off Aero if you're playing games. General consensus of the forums is that 2Gb is the minimum RAM for any computer running Vista compared to the 1Gb for XP.

Like Vista XP 64-bit is supposed to more efficient at running applications however its driver support is much better than Vista x64. It shouldn't make too much of a difference compared to XP x86.

But it is a fact that vista is much more demanding then XP...

If i got 2GB ram in XP games like Crysis must run better then on vista? (I think so :p )

The parts in my laptop will give better performance on xp then on vista?
(also like the boot times, my G1S starts up vista really fast so xp has to start up even faster?)

Crysis is a special case, if you have a DX10 card in Vista it automatically goes to DX10 mode which is prettier but more painful on your performance. Vista IS more demanding than XP which is why Vista machines NEED the 2GB of RAM to run the latest games at playable framerates.

I haven't installed XP on my machine and don't intend to. So far Vista has been stable bar the odd screw-ups due to outdated drivers and I haven't encountered a game I couldn't run once I figured out how the compatibility features worked.

Your 3DMark06 scores will go up maybe a 100 points, but honestly if your doing it just to game faster, its not worth it. The difference is marginal at best, and with better drivers out, hopefully the difference will disappear forever. Plus, you lose all the pretty DX10 effects

It can run it but on LOW.

I play Crysis in dx9 mode... with my 8600M GT GDDR3
First i was playing in dx10 mode but that was to heavy...
(I can play crysis on medium in dx10 mode) in dx9 mode with most options on high...

If you don't need more the 3GB RAM then stick with XP 32-bit. Unless you really like Vista there's no *NEED* to have it. Sure there's DirectX 10, but for a laptop it's useless. High end desktop cards struggle with the DirectX 10 stuff. Maybe in a few years with your next laptop it'll make sense. But by then the next version of Windows will be out or on the horizon, which should be the true successor to XP.

XP 32-bit has the most stable and supported drivers. So if you're shooting for stability and support - go with XP. I had nothing but issues with Vista, whether drivers or not, I had an annoying experience with it.

64 bit drivers are better atm, Aero AUTOMATICALLY turns off when in full screen 3d mode, which should be any game, unless you play windowed.

Vista is maturing in drivers and is getting MUCH better. if you have a DX10 card, get vista! which you do!
