I have an nividia 8600gs graphics card on my laptop, and I want to know what are some recent pc games I can play with settings maxed out. Without compromising performance of course (>30fps).

Well, I believe you can play even Crysis, although not on highest settings. I would say all modern games are playable, although not all on high settings.

i play sins of a solar empire , dawn of war 2 , witcher, mass effect, assassins creed, compnay of heroes, and modern warfare - all of which are high end graphics games on my 8600m gs equipped lappy. all you need are the 182.05 dox nvidia drivers and your good to go. so the card is good enough for most of todays games actually.
for a casual game i recommend world of goo and crayon physics deluxe
google them im sure youll like em

You can play any game out now. ;)

Depending on the game, that decides the settings/resolution.

Most of the orange box should max out @ 1024x768/1280x800 along with Tomb raider anniversary(and maybe tr:legend) @ the same res. Burnout paridise should run on high settings @ 800 x 600 with 40 fps.

If your looking for games that will max out at a decent resolution then you wont be playing any new games
