Has anyone else noticed a very silent but high pitched noise coming from their inspiron 1520 or any other laptop equipped with this card?

And no, I am not talking about the high pitched noise from the CPU/motherboard. I'm talking about a noise that comes from the right side, right under the screen.

This noise is only present when the card runs at 3d clocks. It's very silent when it's at stock, but gets louder as I OC it. It kind of sounds like a very silent cricket. With most games, I have a stable clock at 665/480, but the squeal becomes more noticable as well.

I want to ask. Is this normal, or should I be worried about it? Has anyone else noticed this before? Thank you.

You have the infamous CPU whine that is affecting lots of Dell users, look up the dell forum for possible solutions.

I'm sorry, but I believe you did not read my post too well.

This has nothing to do with that high pitched whine people are getting on the left side. I hear that occassionally. Only for tiny amounts when windows is loading up, then it shuts up entirely and there isn't a single whine from the CPU anymore.

This is a different problem entirely. It's definitely the Graphics card making this sound, and it sounds very different from the CPU whine(it is also a lot more silent and hardly noticable). It also happens only when the Graphics card is running 3d clocks. And the more I OC it, the louder it gets.

I apologise for that, you did say it was from the right hand side after all.

I think you've answered your own question since the noise gets worse as you overclock your card. Perhaps resetting back to stock clocks would solve your problem. If you still intend to overclock you will have to choose a lower speed compared to your current desired overclock setting.

It's the first time I've heard of this issue so maybe it isn't that big a deal, especially if lokster is right and it is the fan doing its work.

I never said it was bothersome. I was asking if I should be worried about it or not. Some sounds CAN be the indication of hardware failing or at least not working as it should.

And yes, may well be the fan, thank you for the feedback.
