    Hi there,
    Just a quick question.

I just bought my Gateway MT6821 laptop from Tigerdirect awhile ago, I knew it came with this Intel GMA 945, so I obviously knew I wasn't gonna be doing ALOT of gaming, I was expecting utter crap, and for the most part, I got it.

Anyways, the description states it can allow up to 224 MB SHARED RAM, I understand the "shared" factor, but if this is the case, why does it say my Video RAM is only 8 MB? That's literally pathetic, my 4+ year old graphic card in my desktop destroys that. I knew the maximum would be 224 MB, but I thought they could at least give me 32 MB minimum? (And before you lecture me, I understand how it "adjusts" the memory and uses as much as it needs)

I looked in my BIOS settings to try to adjust, and it's totally locked (see screenshot below) So my question is, what else can I do here? I'm hoping I can get this thing to do a little bit better, because most games won't even attempt at running, because of that 8 MB rating (they won't even allow me to open the game to lower the gfx settings)

Anyway I can unlock my BIOS there, or somehow adjust the Video RAM?
Any help would be great, I've attached the dxdiag info on my system, if you need any more info just let me know. :) Thanks!

The amount of memory does NOT determine the amount of power in a GPU. It is listing 8MB only because it needs just 8MB to do all the 2D work (aka your desktop and applications).

So when I try to install games and it does not meet the minimum requirements, how does that work? Like, for example, if a game requires 32 MB from the Graphics Card, it should be able to do that with shared memory, right?

The GMA 950 dynamically shares memory - it will use as much as it needs up to 224MB. The minimum is 8MB which, as Greg said, is needed to display your desktop and such.

Unless the game will not let you install a game that has a 32MB minimum requirement, I don't see the issue there.
