    Hi there.

I have recently heard that it it possible to force games to run in DX 6 or 7 mode, and disable a hell lotta effects manually (not necessarily in the games settings) which allows such crap as GMA 950 to run games such as Halo or D3 or even HL2 to be running smoothly, tho with ****e graphics.

Any suggestions on how to do it ?

I know that you can force HL2 to run in DX7 mode by adding '-dxlevel 70' at the end of the target box by right clicking on your shortcut and going into properties. Not so sure whether the same would work for other games however.

Halo original works fine on the gma 900, so it should work flawlessly on the gma 950, poor and all as it is....

Thats strange. I don't know anything about the GMA950 to be honest- I just assumed it is the next module up from the GMA900? My friend uses in his laptop. The GMA900 that is.

He plays Halo, Pariah and Wolfenstein on decent settings - 800x600 with options on medium and a decent framerate.

how about his ram memory? but it truly is strange, since the gma 950 should theoretically be way better than the 900 one :>

He has 768mb in total, so that leaves him with 640 total free ram after the gma900 takes what it needs....

Decent amount of ram is crucial, anything under 512 is not really recommended for playing games with an integrated graphics card :)

That said Halo should work fine if you have 512mb in total (this leaves 384mb ram free after the gma900 usage, and halo runs fine on 256), but if you only have 256mb ram that'd definately be a problem.

Thats strange. It really should work fine....does the GMA950 use 128mb shared? Because I think I read somewhere it can use up to 224mb. Make sure that's not the case.....

Otherwise, I don't really know what could be wrong.

If you only have 512MB of RAM, that's going to hurt you performance-wise as posted. You need at least 1GB to play games, especially with a shared video card.

Well, that would depend on the game. Most games require DirectX 9. Half-Life 2 and other games based on the Source engine as has been posted, and so can Call of Duty 2.

Yeah, I would think that the GMA 950 would be a lot better, even though it is shared. My computer plays Halo and Call of Duty at 1024x768 res with medium settings (and highest lighting effects) quite smoothly, and that's with only 32MB of video memory. Yes, it's 32 dedicated, but it's still an integrated card. Of course, that is with Omega drivers and a little O'C. I can plug it into my TV though and run lower res with higher options and it looks great though. :)
