    Hello fellas,

I just bought myself a brand new cheapy Compaq.

It is a celeron M, 512mb RAM, and GMA 950 graphics.

When I try to play a DVDrip file, the picture freezes but the sound progresses normally.

What do you think may be causing this problem?
I know the obvious solution is to increase the ram.

but what if increasing the ram does not fix the problem?
Is there any way to tweak the GMA 950 graphics?

The graphics generally are not the problem with ripping, as it is the cpu being burdened by the work as well as the limited ram it has to use for the task. I would definitely add another stick just for the general performance increase.

1 - This happens many times when the media/file is damaged.
2 - Try using the latest codecs also try VLC player, it's much better than WMP.
3 - Also try the latest drivers.
I think the real bottleneck is the CPu and that the Ram upgrade will not make much of a difference.
