My Laptop I just returned had the integrated Intel GMA3100 and the laptop I just ordered has the Nvidia 7400 dedicated card and iwas just wonder if the Intel GMA3100 was a better card even though it was integrated.
The reason I ask is because on a couple of web sites the rank the Nvidia 7400 in a class 4 but rank the Intell GMA3100 in a class 5. BTW the laptop I returned was a week old Dell 1520 with a faulty mother board and the one I just ordered is a decked out HP DV6000T and I don't do any intense gaming other than some online checkers and stuff

A dedicated video card will be better then integrated graphics, always. Unless of course you compare an IGP/GMA 10 years in the future to something that we have now.
-
the 7400 is much much better than the X3100, someone correct me if im wrong.
-
class 4 is better than 5, btw.
-
The 7400 is in a completely different class of performance than the integrated x3100. It's not even close. The 7400 destroys it.
-
Nope, your quite right. The X3100 runs amazing for an intel gpu. But is really no match for any 7X00 or 8X00 dedicated of any kind.
-
I agree with all the above posts. BUT...I'd be interested to see some benchmarks comparing the two.
-
Well the 7400 scores about ~2200 in 3dm05, while the x3100 is ~800
-
Also will the nvidia 7400 make my pc louder or hotter than the 3100?

It will probably generate more noise and heat, yes.
-
Well I really should of just got the integrated 3100 since I won't be doing any major graphic intense programs or games but thats my fault and I can always get a cooler if needed.
-
Well if the NVIDIA 7400 is better than the Intell 3100 could someone explain why vista base score index is higher with the intel 3100?
-
hotter? i dunno.. you can;t "measure" your integraded gpu temp which is bad thing. i tried most. -
1. microsoft is kidding with that thing or intel is (hehe)
2. intel has direct x10 but 7400 is X9.c or d
GMA3100 & NVIDIA GEOFORCE 7400 difference notice ?
