If you wanted to do something to help out an alternate digital storefront, buy stuff from GOG more often.

I bought witcher 3 on gog and was happy to see it plays without internet like steam....I support everything positive that I can.....I just don't get all this psycho babble with boycotting stores

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Sad to hear the news, especially considering that GoG is my primary platform of choice (if there is one, as usually there is none...). Hope CDPR will be able to hold out the store...

Other than it's sad news the only thing that stands out is one of the fellow in the comments saying gamers don't really care about DRM; he evidently isn't acquainted with any of the PC gamers I know.
Prototime, hmscott and killkenny1 like this. -
And, just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's "Psycho Babble", grow and learn and it might eventually make sense to you too.
There are many thousands that understand it like I do and aren't going to support Epic's / Deep Silver's / Tencent's move, and will wait for Metro: Exodus to be released on Steam on 02/15/20.
When you figure it out, it will make sense to you too.
So far Epic's store doesn't have anything I need, and so I haven't had to consider sharing my private information + financial instruments with a Chinese run company, which is another major consideration. Not a fan of the CCP's control over Chinese company data and the Chinese company's subservience to the CCP.
"In an official statement to Kotaku this afternoon, a representative for GOG confirmed the layoffs but did not offer much more clarification. “Letting people go is never easy,” they said. “We have been rearranging certain teams since October 2018, effecting in closing around a dozen of positions last week. At the same time, since the process started we have welcomed nearly twice as many new team members, and currently hold 20 open positions.”"
Nice people that GOG are, they are probably giving the let go personnel a sob story about financials - also pretty standard to soften the blow - so it may have some root of truth in that seasonal sales are down as they are after the holidays between game releases - but GOG can likely weather the lull in income as they do annually.
I hope GOG keep going as they have, they do a great job and I enjoy using their store.Last edited: Feb 27, 2019 -
presumptuous.
hmscott i was talking in general not you in mind sir. -
It's not so much a boycott of the Epic store overall, just the Metro Exodus deal.
But, the strong negative reaction to Privacy / Security issues vis a vis the CCP and Tencent's enforcement of the Great Firewall of China keeps many away from enrolling in the Epic Store, essentially making that a boycott of the Epic Store.
So, if it's not what I've said that's "psycho babble" you are referring to, what is it you've heard that is?Last edited: Feb 27, 2019JRE84 likes this. -
oh just some crazies going overboard on steam comments

They're also ending their "Fair Price Package", per https://www.gog.com/news/conclusion_of_the_bfair_price_packageb_program .

Epic has one torrentially successful game and based on numbers from that unicorn title they make up a revenue split of 88/12, which likely isn't enough to sustain a gaming service long term, especially as 90% of the games wouldn't have as good of a sales / profit to allow that split.
Steam tuned their revenue to allow for the 90% of games, and for the 10% that run away with success and sales, the split changes to closer to the 85/15 range.
Epic can't make it work longterm either, they just haven't figured that out yet.Last edited: Feb 28, 2019
