2011.12.10. They will be giving away free game codes on their Twitter and Facebook page.

2011.12.12.-2011.12.14. Free Empire Earth Gold Edition for anyone, who "purchase" it (it will not cost money, but have to go through the usual purcahase phase with puting the item in the basket, etc.)

Just picked up The Witcher 2 for $23.99 from GOG. I think it's really exciting that GOG is expanding into more recent games.

Well, I wouldn't call it expanding, per se. GOG is owned by CDProjekt, creators of Witcher and Witcher 2. More like selfpromotion on the side.

Well they did announce they were expanding into newer games. TW2 tested the waters and they've been getting positive response to encourage them into this. I'd like to think of this sale as more of a middle finger to Namco. :D

The Witcher 2 was the market test, facilitated by the self-promotion aspect. But it has been such a success for GOG that, in 2012, GOG is lifting its requirement that all games it sells have to be three years old. It probably still won't carry new releases, but I think they're going to start selling a whole lot more one-year-old games.

As long as they can keep them at $10 or less, I'm good with it. And also don't lose focus on the classics. It's hard enough to get ahold of some classics as it is. Gog still has a huge catalog of games to choose from over the last 20 years! :D

Under $10 isn't going to happen with games newer than three years old, but it sounds like under $20 will.

3 year old games for under 20 or less with a sale is nice as long as they keep DRM off.

I'm pretty sure that The Witcher 2 is DRM-free when purchased through GOG, and when it's not on sale, they sell it for $40. If they do a $40 game DRM-free, they'll do a $20 game DRM-free.

I bet they'll always have a limited selection compared to Steam or Origin, but being able to buy at least some nearly-new games from them would be great.

GOG's marketing still claims they're committed to DRM-free, which means that unless they pull an about-face to tackle the new-games market that Steam currently dominates, they won't likely be offering any games unless the publishers will agree to their DRM-free policy. In other words, newer game selection should be fairly sparse for a while unless publishers decide that the reward of the GOG offering (which I see to be very small) is greater than the risk of the DRM-free offering (which I also see to be very small). Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for GOG if they get a new revenue stream from newer games, and offering 1-3 year-old games totally DRM-free would be terrific, but GOG's got a great thing going from a consumer's standpoint as the marketplace for legitimate copies of older games that are often unavailable anywhere else, some of which were unavailable for years until GOG picked them up. As long as they don't lose focus on giving us the Good Old Games they named themselves after, I'll be happy as a clam. I'm still holding out hope for the System Shock series one day, after all.

Speaking of GOG, did everyone see that they've got Ultima VII (the Complete Collection, including Serpent Isle and The Silver Seed) for $5.99? I have good memories of that game, though I'm not sure how it'd hold up to modern tastes.

So then it probably means indie games (the only other segment not using DRM like there's no tomorrow).

I almost went ahead and bought it today, thinking it would be free. Good thing I noticed the date at the last minute. :D

I don't know if I would enjoy it (or even play it) today, but I have fond memories of Empire Earth, as it was the first RTS I've ever played. I lost my copy in one of my recent moves, so I am looking forward to see what I think of it nowadays. Hope it runs ok on Windows 7.

The people over at GoG.com always check if the game runs on a modern OS and if it doesent, they delay the release and try to figure out a solution. :D
And it has much higher compatability since they removed DRM that could otherwise give you a BSoD, like Starforce on one of my older games.
    (Have to play it with a VM. D;

CDProjekt is VERY anti-DRM, so that will never be a problem in the future. I absolutely love the stance that they and Steam are taking with the whole issue, and it makes most of the big publishers look like tools. Basically they both say that piracy is a service/quality issue, and if you take care of your customers and offer a great product at the right price, they WILL buy it.

And honestly, I can see their point. With Steam/Digital Distribution(and especially the sales), I haven't pirated more than two or three games in years. The ones I have were honestly for demoing to see if they were worth my money, or to play at a LAN briefly. Steam has taken so much of my money, and I don't feel bad about it :D

Well Steam still keeps other publisher's DRM in place usually even if you do use Steam. So you could have Steam + serial key + SecurRom + GFWL. It's stupid.

Sadly this sale will probably be the last time you see TW2 this low for a while on GOG as geolocation will be forced on them for TW2.

I guess by Steam, I meant Valve. And more specifically, Gabe Newell. And yes, I realize Steam itself is a form of DRM. But it's unintrusive and actually adds value to the product, compared to most DRM which only takes away from the finished product.

Yeah, Steam has to play ball with publishers to some degree regarding DRM, but Valve products themselves are pretty DRM free. Register with Steam, enter a cd-key, and done.

I'm waiting for their chistmas sales to buy that!. Ultima 7 is(are) the best game(s) EVER (IMO).

Earlier, I tried to grab a Realms of Arkania game from their giveaway, but GoG site collapsed and it was imposible. I believe their server/service wasn't ready for that quantity of people trying to grab something. I don't know how they can't prevent this. I still trust them and will be buying games from them in the future.
