Anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Maybe they'll sell games that aren't just old anymore? Like d2d but no drm?

I would automatically jump on it instead of using Steam if they also have similar sales.

Meh, I have too many games on Steam to ditch it now.
Yes, I'm one of those people who sometimes buys cheap games just for +1 in games list.

I really really hope their next Title is dedicated to the PC mainly and maybe eventually to xbox720/PS4.

We need more developers risking/venturing in the Pc market, if they do so people will actually have an incentive to buy new Computers/laptops activating a life giving cycle to the industry.

And then we can actually be somewhat independent from console development.

This does not look a pipe dream to me, with 600 dollars you can buy a decent computer way better then the consoles and nowadays(even more the rest of the decade)we have billions of people in the world that could potentially be interested in a game if it is innovative, novel, realistic, artful and etc

EDit: I think the world right now is in a transformative state, so there are many things that could change helping and advancing this type of scenario or somewhat similar ones, the point is to not get stuck with 6 year old hardware. (8 year hardware if the release of consoles is 2013)

^GOG is a store for PC games, most of which are PC exclusive and aren't sold in most stores anymore. They don't develop anything.

The people who run GOG do develop games though, hence the reason why the Witcher 2 is available off their website for retail even though it's a new release.

Are GOG starting to expand and become more mainstream (since they seem to be selling new games now, like TW2) or is it still mainly old classics?

I'm sure everyone posting in this thread knows that CDProjekt run GOG and that the Witcher series is their own in-house developed PC game?

Back on topic: I'm curious what their announcement is, surely it's not news about the upcoming Witcher 2 Xbox360 port?!

The Xbox360 port was announced previously for the Witcher 2, date not yet decided but the ESRB assigned a rating already so they may well have something in the works.

The port won't turn out half as well as it did for the PC considering how demanding the PC version is on the latest series of GPUs.

Lol the rating is already there on the ESRB website. You're kidding yourself if you think witcher 2 isnt going to consoles.

The entire consolers hating PC and vice versa is so childish, seriously.

The hating comes from a feeling of one limiting the progression of the other =(

Hopefully this will change, who knows maybe cloud computing will make any point moot (unless they take years and years to update the cloud computing hardware which then is yet another level of fail)
Although i don't see gaming cloud computing (as in intensive demanding games) becoming mainstream any time soon other then a few million people maybe.

But that's not what happened with the Witcher 2. CDProjekt did it right: they made the game for the best hardware available so it looks good on PC and the console ports will almost certainly be a degraded version of that designed for running on 5+ year old hardware. Of course, the problem is that in the future they may start with the consoles in which case everyone gets the degraded version, but hopefully they won't do that. Unlike, say, Bioware, they haven't been bought by a large corporation (yet) so they're not forced to aim for the largest target.

Minor but important distinction is that The Witcher series was developed by CDProjekt Red, which CDProjekt refers to as their sister studio. They mentioned in their previous announcement that selling TW2 was just to test the waters. My memory's a little fuzzy, but I think they might have said if they were to go any further with new games, they would start a new service and call it Good New Games.

As for their big announcement, I'm hoping it's Lucasarts too, which I thought they were announcing during their last presentation , but I would be just as happy if it were EA. Not too keen about Microsoft unless it's Crimson Skies. I don't think there's anything in SqueEnix's or T2's back catalogs that interest me though.

I still find the purchase of Bioware and Pandemic suspect. Both studios, privately owned, decide to merge and be owned by a venture capital group headed by the current CEO of EA, Riccitiello. After Jade Empire and Mass Effect, they get sold to EA and the then EA CEO steps down and names Riccitiello successor. I swear it's some sort of devious EA plan set in motion long ago. Hopefully CD Projekt remains private long enough for all the good old games to be released. They've already taken a bit of a hit having Atari as their publisher, whom I suspect were the ones insisting on Securom everywhere outside of GOG.

Thanks for the clarification, I've always referred to them as one entity without realizing it was two different studios.

I completely agree with the above, it would be great if CDProjekt stayed private without giving in to the evil corporate entities like EA, although it's strange you mention Atari in that vein since they have different publishers handling the game across regions and it seems all of them have some form of SecuRom enabled in the retail versions.

Looks like it's EA! Dungeon Keeper, Wing Commander: Privateer, and Ultima Underworld 1 + 2 are available now.

System Shock and Syndicate series are a no go at the moment due to rights issues.

I'll be impressed if they release System Shock 2 on GOG, it's a real pain to get working on Vista and a legitimate release on the retail portal would definitely get my money.
