Hey guys,
I feel kind of silly opening a new thread for this, but I didn't see any thread for it, so here goes![]()
I'm currently in the market for a new laptop and I'm wondering what GPU I'd need to handle my requirements. I'm not that avid of a gamer anymore, but I do still want to play the big upcoming titles like AC III, Bioshock 3, next COD with decent performance.
(Maybe Crysis 3 too but that's probably a long shot, given how intensive the former titles were)
Could you guys make an educated guess what GPU (and CPU if you want to be really helpful) could run titles like AC III and Bioshock and still get "the full experience"?
It doesn't have to be ultra graphics on native resolution at 60 FPS, but let's say high graphics at a playable FPS (for AC and Bioshock I guess that's 30-40).
What's the minimum level of GPU that could pull that off? Nvidia 650? 640?
Thanks in advance!

Seeing how ACIII and Bioshock will keep to being console ports, a 650M should do pretty well with those games (will probably even max them out).
Your guess is right with Crysis 3, but then again, even those with high end cards can expect it not running with everything maxed out.
If you want some sort of "future proofing", I would recommend at least a 650M. Again, "future proofing" can be subjective and my recommendations are based on your specifics. -
The GT 640M GDDR5 is definitely the new Nvidia minimum. On the AMD side, it's the 7750M GDDR5.
Forget about DDR3 cards. -
Try a 660M if you have the money. Maybe you can even find a cheap 670M since no one wants them anymore.

660m is really same as 650/640 as long as they are all gddr5. just diff clock speeds
-
Is the difference between GDDR5/3 very noticeable?

I'd just go with a Clevo NP150EM stock with the 670 or 675M, good to go there. Prices are really nice for those machines.

A 650m or 7750m should be fine to run most games coming out in the next few years at 1080p. Of course you want to make sure you get the GDDR5 version.

Wouldnt go under a 650m ddr5...
