    Good day everyone.

I'll get straight to it. My GPU(680m) has been going crazy whenever i use any programs that turn it on, after a few seconds-minutes it goes up to 90c in turn it makes my laptop shut itself down. I have already tried cleaning out the vents. I have also already tried updating to the newest GPU driver version to no avail. Please help.

    Specs:
    NP9150
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
    Intel Core i7-3610QM
    GTX 680m
    8 GB RAM

What thermal paste did you replace the original with when cleaning?

I actually haven't replaced the thermal paste yet. I just used a can of pressurized air to clean the vents. Aside from the thermal paste wearing off(not sure if this is the correct terms) in your opinion what other possiblity is there?

Edit: Thanks for the extremely quick response.

If the thermal paste does not fix it you likely need a new heatsink as one of the pipes is likely bad.

Things like this can happen out of the blue, unfortunately yes.

I would try and do a re-paste and then see how you go. Hopefully it should fix your temp issues.

    Cheers. :)

I repasted a few hours ago and tried to play a game, my laptop still automatically turned off. Is there something else that's wrong? Or do i have to wait a few more hours/days for the paste to be effective?

It must be something to do with thermal paste, or rather how it's being applied. I got it completely wrong on my first try too. The second time was considerably better. The trick is not to put too much or too little paste and to hold the heatsink firmly in place while re-tightening the screws so that absolutely no air bubbles can get into the paste. Air is a GPU's worst enemy.

Reminds me, I need to have another shot at repasting my laptop.

    Okay cool, thanks!

Just want to update you guys and once again thank you for all the help/advice. My laptop has thankfully been "healed"! It turns out i just placed a tid(about 10-15%)more thermal compound than what i should have put. If anyone is curious I used the new(?) Cooler Master: Extreme Fusion X1 and i've done about 4 repastes and it has given me the lowest temps on all the games i've been running and it even has no curing(i think) so yeah. Thanks again guys!
