I am using Windows Vista x64 on my Asus A8Js.
My GPU is a GeForce 7700 512MB Dedicated.
When I run dxdiag, it shows 760MB.

I dont want it share memory with my system memory. How do I disable it from doing that?

That’s because you’re running Windows Vista. Vista automatically assigns some portion of your System RAM for your graphics purposes. So you have 512MB dedicated on your Geforce 7700, while Vista assigns another 248-256MB of System Shared memory for a total of 760-767MB. If you right click on desktop/Properties and go to Display Settings/Advanced Settings you'll see how much memory is dedicated and how much is shared. Don’t worry the shared memory does not affect you in anyway, since Windows will only use it if needed (your 512MB VRAM is more than enough for Windows not to use the shared memory). Ow by the way I've been to United Arab Emirates, its a amazing looking country. :)

Hell yeah this country, especially Dubai is developed like anything. Aint no city comparing to this one.
They have the Palm Islands - Islands in shape of a Palm Tree
The World - Islands in shape of the World Map
Burj Dubai - Tallest Building in the world
Burj Al Arab - Worlds most expensive hotel located in the middle of the Ocean.
The richest square kilometre in the World (Sheikh Zayed Road)
Most Expensive advertising - approx 20 million dollers for a 30 meter stretch advertisement on the highway.
The Worlds Largest Mall - Dubai Mall (still in the process)
Man made snow skiiing (yeah.....thats with real snow)
Also.......the country with the largest number of Ferrari Enzos, BMWs and Benzs' (we're talking about density here)

    so yeah......this way its gud.
but to tell u the truth........for me this place iz just OK.....lifestyle here aint peaceful.....everybodys running here and there

    when they're oil runs out

    GG for them

(and no one is going to go there for tourism. if the world just ran out of oil, there'd be huge stock market crash)

That's such a bad thing to say. Take a look at yourself first. You don't even have proper diction. It's their, not they're.

Back on topic. Odd. I didn't know Windows Vista automatically tries to grab more RAM for graphics.

Yep. On mine it grabs 1GB for graphics, and I didn't think a Go 7200 was even capable of using that much. ;)

On topic: Its ok i get it.....

Off topic: Dubai earns only 2.3% of its income from Oil. Get your facts straight. This aint Saudi Arabia, Bahrain or Kuwait. Its the United Arab Emirates, it has oil, but not much, it sustains itself and thats it. Maybe a little export. And yes......90% population in this place is British and Asian expats, they come here for tourism, like this place, and settle here.

Eh? As far as I can read, 30% of your revenue is based on oil and you export 2.5 million bbl/day.

Heh. I am writing from Bangladesh right now (I am from New York) and we take Emirates as the default flight from NY to BD and the airport...is just fantastic. I know it is just an airport but I rate it 10/10 for service and well..It is like you're in a mall.

What are you talking about? His laptop has a Geforce 7700 with 512MB of DEDICATED VRAM. It has nothing to do with his computer not having enough VRAM, it's Windows Vista which automatically assigns Shared System Memory even though it might not necessarily be needed. Right now for notebook GPU's 512MB dedicated VRAM is the max you can get, so get your facts straight before you poke fun at a decent laptop. Off topic: I’ve been to most of the places you mentioned and they’re all absolutely astonishing. United Arab Emirates is taking the right path in the Middle East. They know that their oil won’t last forever so they’re putting their money into building a country full of amazing sites and attractions so they can draw their future incomes from tourism instead.

    And with sites like these:

Tourism is bound to increase rapidly throughout the years to come.

    First off: I aint rich.
Laptops here are expensive. I bought the Asus A8Js for $2000 approx. 1GB RAM out here is for like $250 approx. A game DVD costs like $150. So it gets difficult, plus with the huge (thats huge with a capital H) rents that you pay. And normal standard of living here is high. So even though we maybe earning more, we still save nuthing cuz it too damn expensive.

And yeah.........the airport rocks.....the best airport I ever seen. The Duty Free is like a mall. And even Emirates Airlines, which is the best in the world, rocks!!!

Yeah don't worry about it, some people don't know what they're talking about. As Crazyjediman24 said, your GeForce Go 7700 is a very powerful graphics card for its class and with 512MB dedicated of VRAM (being quite a lot) Windows Vista will never get to use the Shared Memory it has assigned to your card.
