Hi guys, I just would like a little input about my graphics card's heat....According to SpeedFan my Nvidia 9800M GS (512 MB) card is getting up to around 92C while playing the Sims 3. Before the hottest I had seen it get was around 87C and I already thought that was too hot. Is it normal for this card to get this hot, or is it dangerous to let it run this high?
I was playing Sims 3 with the highest resolution my laptop has (1650x1080) and pretty much all of the graphics sliders were maxed. But it was my impression that this was a considerably powerful card. So should it be getting this hot? I'm not blocking the ventilation area at all and the room isn't really excessively warm so what gives? Should I just sacrifice some graphics for a lower temp or is this fine? And also, is there any reasonable solution to cool it off some? I can't figure out how to change the fan settings and I'd rather not mess with those kinds of things if possible.
Thanks.

Anything over 80*C raises the yellow flag. Anything over 90*C raises the red flag. What laptop is your 9800M GS in? Walk with me to the Cooling Central.

It's an Asus G50VT-X2.

You want it to be under 90C. Anything under that is okay.
Id recommend a Notebook Cooler. SUck as the NZXT Cryo LX or Enermax Aeolus CP001 (review in sig).
You could undervolt your CPU, via the Undervolting Guide, which will lower the temp of the whole case in general, and could slightly help the GPU as well. -
Thanks for the link to the cooling guide I'll check it out. And yeah a notebook cooler is probably in order but isn't it kind of ridiculous for it to get that hot just from Sims 3? Ah well.
And about the tip to undervolt the CPU, would that actually lower the GPU any? The CPUs both run typically at exactly 46C and I havent EVER seen them exceed 50C under any amount of stress. They are nice and chilly. -
have you ever cleaned the vents with compressed air? that might help

What about using a stable driver like Nvidia official 179.4x drivers.

It can be becouse the driver, and don't forget that the summer is here. That means higher rom temprature which can makes your laptop/computer run hooter...

Is your card overclocked?

Please double check the temp with either HW monitor or Rivatuner, because speedfan I believe is more appropriate for desktops and not so accurante on laptops.
