    Hi,
My first question is the GPU temperature reaches 79C after about 2 hours of intensive gaming like (Batman:AA or Assassin's Creed at native res. & Maxed out all settings). Is this temp. normal after intensive gaming ??? while the CPU reaches 65C ( i think it's fine ) but i'm not sure about GPU high temp, they say above 80C is dangerous. My laptop is 7 days old and i can hear GPU fan working fine. Specs in Sig
BTW. without gaming GPU temp. is about 55C and CPU is about 45C
GPU Clock speed: 550, memory: 667

Second question is that I downloaded from ATI website the latest Catalyst controler 9.9 for win 7 64bit to update my GPU Driver but when i run GPU-Z it reads in Driver Version: atiumdag 8.14.10.678 (Catalyst 9.7)/Win7 64 <---- is this already the latest HD4650 driver available or catalyst 9.9 didn't update my GPU Driver

    Thanks for ur time :)

HP's are kind of known to run a little on the warm side. 80c is fine, its really 90c thats the danger area. Just make sure you clean out the vents every couple of months.

Your temperatures whilst gaming are nothing to worry about. Like Rorschach said, it's only when it hits 90C, should you really start to worry.

However, your idle temperature for your GPU does seem a *little* bit high, but still, nothing to worry about.

You can compare temperature with other people who have the same notebooks.

Thanks for ur reply guys. Before I thought there is something wrong with my new laptop, because the cores never exceed 65c and HDD max temp is 50c, so i guess high end cards heats up fast with gaming. Cleaning up my vents will void my warranty ?? also should I overclock the memory speed to the stock 800 instead of 667 ???

Can someone please help me with my second question in the first post.

If I remember correctly with my ATI card, the Catalyst version is NOT the same as the ATI driver's version. So don't worry about that. As long as you downloaded the latest catalyst PACKAGE, which includes CCC with the newest drivers you're fine. I thought there was a 9.10 out or something or even .11 so look for that.

Cleaning will not void warranty. Your HDD temps are fine, core temps are fine as well as GPU temps. Max operating temp for HDD is usually 60C. My GPU gets up to 74C although the cooling is better in my system. My HDD is my only concern as it gets up to 56C. Cores are around 50-60C don't remember. This is with arctic silver 5 thermal paste.

Finally, If you're happy with your GPU performance, then I wouldn't overclock, plus I don't want to assume but it might be a bit over your head since you have questions about things that are less technical. I wouldn't touch it if I were you.

Cleaning vents will not void your warranty. Particularly if you can do it without removing the cover, though usually you can't do it that way very effectively.

As long as you don't break any stickers that say "warranty void if removed", you're not voiding the warranty. I'd be shocked if they had a sticker like that over an access panel.

You can overclock if you want, but you'll be overclocking the ram, FSB, and CPU at the same time. Do some research before you try this.

There is no stickers at the back at all, except for the one with the product specs & serial number and windows 7 product number etc...

I will not overclock my GPU, I'm satisfied with it's performance i don't need more heat, It is just why HP underclocked the memory speed to 667 while the stock is 800 and did nothing to the clock speed.

thanks aznguyen316, I'm downloading catalyst 9.12 suite with new drivers

There is no JEDEC standard for DDR3 at 667MHz. Why would HP do that? That's retarded..

yea it disappointed me, also I installed Catalyst 9.12 suite with new drivers but it seems i have the old Version in all means, Should I uninstall the old version before installing the new one ??

the link where i downloaded the new Catalyst 9.12(maybe its for desktop cards only) :
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit

ATI Catalyst 9.9 for Mobility Radeons:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

both of them didn't make any effect after installing them, I still have Catalyst 9.7

    any ideas ??

I'd definitely take a look into cleaning out your vents.
Although, I'd be surprised if a week-old laptop has accumulated that much dirt.
Have you changed thermal paste before, as this will probably help to reduce temperatures over the stock paste.

From experience, I can also say that HPs do get a little warm, even if the GPU isn't being used heavily.

never changed thermal paste before and I don't think it accumulated that much of dirt, i put it in it's bag after using it.

I would think it's normal after gaming for 3 hours. Are you using a laptop cooler? Fans can only do so much after time so you either need extra help or give it a break after some time. The cooling systems in laptops I don't think are made well enough to sustain cooling on intensive work after long periods of time.. unless it's built specifically for that use, like gaming laptops or mobile workstations etc. And even gaming laptops (e.g. Asus G series) the 260m cards get up to 90c after a short period of gaming, so yeah I think it's normal.

I never let my Dell Studio XPS w/ ATI 3670 get higher than 75C but I had paste + Zalman NC2000 + undervolt to help. And as I stated earlier, my current Sager just has paste and great built in cooling and it doesn't go above 74C yet.

    1. Use laptop cooler.
    2. Undervolt CPU using The Undervolting Guide which can be found on the forum.
    3. Basically uninstall all ur old drivers... Use a program called drive sweeper to get rid of traces of old drivers in safe mode.
    4. Install new drivers... should have better temps...

I completely uninstalled version 9.7 with ATI installer, Rebooted, then removed the rest of the drivers by drive sweeper (but not in safe mode, dunno how to restart in safe mode) and then installed version 9.9 and still no changes it reads 9.7 in the catalyst info

It's ok.... so u recommend the hotfix 9.12 over the other, I think the only problem i have with the 9.12 till now is the performance drop in Resident evil 5(Video Mode), other than that it works really good. I'll try to download hotfix now and install it with the same method i used before and mod it too with Mobility Modder or install it over the 9.12 like the other guys do??? . thanks Sean

I don't see any difference in Resident Evil 5 but I noticed low FPS in Assassin's Creed and in HD movies. But why we don't install Catalyst 9.9 which is specifically made for mobility cards in laptops ??
