I've been looking around for an extra laptop. I let my younger cousins use my PC when they're over on the weekends. Looking through Newegg, Tigerdirect, and Wal-Mart's selections I am not sure about how the GPU's compare. Most are either Radeon 4250 / 6250. According to Notebookcheck they're not all that different, and might have problems with games, such as Left 4 Dead.

I don't have a big budget,I would like spend $500-ish. Looking around the forums, the 540M is a good card to have. Which brings up the Sager laptops that are spoken of a lot here. The NP5160 seems nice but rather high. I am wondering if anyone may know of a ~$500 laptop with similar power.

For $500, you're not going to get much more than a netbook unless you go second hand.

    ~$500 for a 540M?

    Ask again in 2 years.

If you're not in the immediate market (can wait a month or two possibly), you can look at any of the new Llano based laptops that just were released (Llano was just released, I'm not sure about actual product use yet, but it should be soon based on how good it looks to OEMs).

You could also look at Bobcat (E-350 or whatever the mobile version is called) as a souped up Atom + Ion2 combo if you need something now for cheap.

500$ is a very limited budget. Your best bet would be getting a netbook with a discrete gpu at best, or maybe get a llano laptop, which supposedly have great igps, albeit weaker cpus.

I seriously doubt you can get a 540m for 500$
