Notebook in sig (hp dv7t, 9600mGT). It idles at 60 C lately after having it idle at low 50's for months. I don't get it. 98% of the time it's docked on my desktop, resting on a cooler (that I don't even bother turning on anymore because it never made any difference in temp). The only things to have ever changed are that I now have Windows 7, Norton Internet Security 2010, nvidia 186.44 drivers, have installed flash player 2.1. Is it the drivers?

I've sprayed the vents with air a few times in the 10 months I've owned it.

I just don't get why the temps are 10 C warmer for no apparent reason.

Run gpuz and post your clocks. It's most likely that when you upgraded to windows 7 your new drivers running the gpu without powermizer.

if your using the beta NVDIA drivers or non official NVDIA drivers , no suprise if you got this problem.. Use the 186.81 drivers .. they're the newest and coolest ones...

i gave the vents another shot of compressed air and updated drivers from 186.44 ---> 186.81 ... my old drivers were WHQL, but we'll see if these make any difference.

it is most likely powermizer not functioning properly, it was having troubles with my GPU and would clock up to extra (gaming) clocks whenever I moved a window in aero on win7, so I went back to vista for now.

But getting GPU-Z and checking if powermizer was working was just TOO MUCH WORK?

My 9600's been a little high also, so I thought I'd just ask here, to get an idea of what could be causing it

This is what GPU-Z shows me when I'm idling, with FF and Gom Player running

The information under the Sensors tab is what's important.

Seems like my idle is back down to low 50's again. I decided to warm things up, ran a 1080p movie on cyberlink, youtube hi def in the background, and a dvd at the same time for a few minutes. Got the gpu upto 67. It cooled down pretty quickly to around 52.
