When I'm scrolling on a webpage (in FF or IE), I hear a blowing noise, like a quiet fan, that only lasts as long as I'm scrolling. I thought this was the only instance where I heard it, but today I also heard it while editing a photo with GIMP. I heard the sound when I was using the brush. As soon as I stopped coloring, the sound stopped- just like with the scrolling.

I remember hearing this a few times when I was on Vista, but it seems to do it every time I scroll now on Windows 7.

I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I think it might be the GPU fan?

I have an nVidia 9600M GT GPU with the latest driver from their website.

Does anyone know what is causing this noise?

    Thanks

Not exactly. It's not really a whining sound. It just sounds like a fan (very subtle). And it doesn't happen everytime. Just sometimes.

I noticed that when I was moving my WMP windows, I heard it too.

Sounds similar. He replaced his PSU (like you mentioned above). But my laptop is pretty new. Would I actually need a new PSU or is this just a normal sound?

it could be your gpu there was something to do with vsync which made gtx260's make bazzing noise. this happened to my friend when he played counter strike source because of the high framerates. the sound wasnt there when the framerates were lowere. apparently its something to do with capacitors or something. i dont know if this is what you have though

As long as it doesn't cause any problems, I guess there's nothing to worry about, right?
