I'm nearing the end of my senior year of high school and will be buying a laptop soon for collage and i have a question about a mobile graphics card as i have not kept up to date in the mobile area of GPUs. In my desktop computer i have a GeForce 7900 GS and I'm curious if the GeForce 8700M GT wold be comperable if not better than the 7900 GS. I would like to be able to play the same few games i play with the same performance (or better) and im curious if the GeForce 8700M GT can deliver. I am also curious if there is a lesser mobile card that can match the performance of the 7900 GS. My last question is what peoples guesses are on what type of price drop to expect on the 8800M GTX by june.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :]

Well, I wouldn't expect a very huge drop in 8800m GTX prices. As for the 8700m GT, I believe it would be on the same level, maybe a little better than a 7900 GS. If this helps any, the 8700 GT isn't worth the money. Get an 8800 GTS/GTX or spend less and get an 8600 GT. The 8700 GT just isn't worth it anymore.

I believe that the 8700M GT is better than your desktop's 7900GS. The 7900GS gets ~3600 points in 3DMark06 while the 8700M GT gets ~4300 points.

The desktop 7900GS gets only 3600pts? On my desktop I'm getting 3800pts

    8600GT
    Sempron 3100+
    1.5GB DDR400

The 7900 GS gets around 4500-5000 in 3DMark06. The Go 7900 GS performs slightly better than the 8600m GT.

the 8700M gt can get 6000 points in 3dmark06 if you clock it, if not you will get around 5000 maybe less. Anyway it is still better then the 7900 GS
