I just bought an asus g1s with an 8600 gt and was curious to see my gpu temps. After reading around here they seem to be very high. They're around 95-100 when im not gaming, and when im playing a game they go up to 110-115. I'm not overclocking and never have. Do you think i have a problem or should i not worry? And if the temps are high could this lead to poor performance in games?

Temperatures are dangerously high, have you cleaned out the air vents? If they're clean and the temperatures are still high check with Asus to see if they can help, the G1S is notorious for heat problems and it won't help your card's lifetime if temperatures stay consistently high.

i just bought this laptop last week so i doubt the vents are dirty already, but ill give it a try. Would a temperature increase cause a drop in fps? Thanks for the advice

High temperatures reduce the longevity of the card, if you're not careful the video card could become an expensive piece of junk as the heat wrecks its circuitry.
That said you did just buy your laptop recently so check with the manufacturer for help. The G1S is notorious for heat problems but yours may be an exceptionally bad case. As for the question about fps, games will not be affected framerate wise but as I said the hardware itself may be damaged. -
When gaming the GPU temperature of my G1S can go up to 96°C (max.)
What drivers are you using?
What is the room temperature where you play games? -
I have G1S too and GPU temp sometimes reaches 108°C (max might be even more) when playing and it is constantly over 100°C under heavy load. Idle temp is 70-80°C.
I have noticed that sometimes my fps drops quite much when having a long gaming session and I guess that's due to high temp. My system rebooted itself once when I played over 5 hours without significant pauses.
The room is quite cool and I have wooden desk under the laptop.
So also my G1S is a hot one. I doubt this will remain undamaged for over 2 years
(warranty time).
