Is the 9700m gts defective? I have the x305 and noticed when I run Nvidia system monitor, looking at the Gpu temp it never stablizes at an idle temp but keeps climbing and when it hit's 65 degrees celcius the fan would kick in and lower it to 55 degrees, then the fan would stop and the temp would climb back up again to 65 then fan kicks in and this cycle would happen every 30 seconds which is irritating because of the fan noise. Also on my x205 the temp would stablize at 61 degrees celcius plus or minus 2 degrees but it would stablize and not climb constantly like the 9700m gts in my x305. Is this the only gaming notebook that does this? Or does others behave this way?

dont worry about idle temps... they usually mean nothing as compared to full load temps.

each system has low-level firmware to control the fans when temps for a particular component gets to a certain temp.

    conclusion:
    - do not worry about those idle temps, they are fine.

Thanks very much Gophn, this is what was worrying me. I did notice that after gaming couple hours playing COD4 multiplayer and then logging out and checking temps it would be about 80 degrees celcius then start to drop. So it never got as high as the x205 which sometimes went to 90 degrees celcius. But would this be a prob for the fan? would this be more wear and tear on it or supposedly Toshiba R&D took this into account. Also toshiba put out another vid driver for the European model I think it's called the x300. The driver I'm running right now is 175.90 and the new one although it's not on the US toshiba site is 176.18, will this help anyway with the temp rising and is it wise to use this driver since it works on the european version of the x305. thanks.

drivers are usually universal regardless of what country you are in.

as for temps, I recommend using RivaTuner to monitor GPU temps, since its the only one that works while in-game.

Guide about it is in the Dummy Guides section of this forum.
