View video here, its pretty impressive. Interesting, how mach CPU power would be needed to do all that without PPU?

I personally think the PPU is overrated. With the advent of quad-core systems, the CPU will be powerful enough to take care of physics calculations without the need for a separate card.

Well, many thought about this one, and the early benchmarks showed the PPU to make little difference too. From what I have heard, Ageia showed that in some demos that were released later, the PPU did make some difference (The PPU has a fixed functionality with focus on some attributes, so even a tough CPU will have a hard time here.
However, PPU's real doom is the GPUs.Havok, PhysX's rival, uses the Vertex Shader capabilities to accelerate the Physical calculations. And both nVidia and ATI cooperated with Havok to make their GPUs work good for physics calculations (Some info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics_processing_unit)
And since Ageia is a newcomer, some GPUs like the X1950 are several times as powerful as the PhysX PPU.
