controls are terrible. I adjusted couple of times steering and what not, and still nothing
I had to do about 25 times just the first race that was on normal difficulty just to pass in decent position, which was 6th.![]()
and not that I'm not good at that, thought I finished NFS Carbon in a week or so.
very dissapointed![]()

Very true. It is a lot of racing...the grid is almost too realistic. I don't think I have ever said that. The controls are awful, unfortunately, and the only fun races are the new tracks or demo derby. I like the storyline aspect of nfs, just the game's play is merely decent.
-
are you trying to drive with your keyboard?
-
The driving controls are not terrible even on the keyboard they are great, GRID just takes a few days to get used to but I'd say the same with any good racing game. On the keyboard it is a little harder but even with practice you can get pretty good, do you really want Midnight Club controls which anybody can use?
I was crap at first (spinning out of control, not even finishing races, etc) but within 3 days of practice I could get myself in the top 3 of every race online.
Maybe if you explain why you feel the controls are terrible I might understand. -
it sucks? is it mainly like a racing simulation games (unlike burnout)?
i just got it too -
i dont think grid sucks at all. it is very fun.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
controls are very very powerful. a little turning goes a long way in grid. it takes getting used to, but it makes the game a bit more about finesse.
-
put steering linearity at 10
-
sucks? are you crazy ha? I love this game, great fun! i play with both the keyboard or the Xbox 360 gamepad, both work fine, but the pad will give you better control.... can't see how it would suck though.... do you even like racing games?
-
.... You either are playing with the keyboard or don't know how to play it at all... I'm playing it with a x360 controller and I'm havong a blast.
-
-
Is this game a racing sim or an arcade? Its too amatuerish...just monotonous racing across different tracks and with different cars...no pits,no practice, qualifying modes!
-
-
just cause your used to NFS n crap like that (i dont really mean that lol) i crashed out about 5 times befor i even finished the first racegrid has proper racing line and proper brakes ext
.
NFS all the ones ive played are just crap their to wussyand *Easy* Racedriver grid is hardcore
and real the only problem is they made an arcade game out of it.
And drifting with the latest patch is really good because you have to actually use the hand brake
1. no pit stop !!!!!
2 No qualification !!!!
their you go.
Grid Driving tips for keyboard
.
1. brake before you turn
2. before you turn go on the outside of the track then pull back onto the rumble strips
3.tap the accelerator through the turns -
Codemasters are building another game based on the GRID engine after snatching the rights from Sony which is F1 2009 for PC and I hope they dont mess it up!
-
Get a G25...........
-
not everyone has that kind of budjet mate
-
I'm trying to play it with keyboard, and the turns suck so bad that it's no really fun to play.
having played couple of them car games, thought I like 'um, I'd say NFS beats all that I've played. Actually, I've played 3 different NFS, all good. Unlike this one, control-wise.
I'll give it couple more days before the uninstall takes place. -
All of the NFS games are arcade style racing games. GRID is a simulation racing game. Meaning simply, the cars in GRID react as they should true to life, with the understeer/oversteer that you would expect from a real vehicle. In order to actually play grid you almost NEED a controller or steering wheel because sim racing games require good throttle control, otherwise you'll either get serious understeer from too much throttle, or oversteer from the rear tires slipping out on a RWD vehicle with too much power.
Arcade style games like the NFS series don't use real car physics, the creators intended for the game to just be a simple racing game that anyone could pick up and play. You can use a keyboard because it doesn't matter if your 100% on the throttle all the time because it doesn't have a drastic effect on your steering.
I don't know if you own a car or not, but if you do, try taking it to a local race track, and go around the whole course with your foot on the pedal 100%. Some people like myself love this because it makes the game a challenge, NFS games are much too easy to me. -
i dont know if i would call grid a sim. a sim is more gran turismo/forza to me.
-
I play all my racing games with the keyboard no problem at all with that. I think you have to train more on the keyboard for this game, simple as that.
in Grid I win a lot of races with the keyboard alone -
-
grid and turismo are "half" sim at most. try Live for Speed if you want a truly sim.
-
Maybe,GRID is more enjoyable with a Gaming Wheel..
-
a gaming wheel would be awesome of course but they're really expensive. Buy a 360 controller, it's not that expensive and it makes the game way better. I never played grid until i got the controller, it makes it alot easier to play.
-
its just matter of time .. me too was very bad at first but just in 2 days i was the first
..
-
try this if cars turn too much for you and become uncontrollable when taking turns at high speeds (keyboard):
take off driving assist: stability control
put stearing linearity to -10, all the way down.
Now the cars will go in straight lines at top speed, and you can take long turns well at top speed. The problem is that for taking quick turns at high speeds you gotta use the handbrake now because of the massive understeer, to get your front pointing the right way. I find the game much more controllable this way ( at least using the keyboard) -
GRID is NOT a racing sim. Rather, it effectively straddles the line between sim and arcade, and that's what I love about it.
Maybe instead of GRID you NFS fans should try Mario Kart. They're about as equally realistic. -
he is probably a noob(any NFSU fan boy) who wants to smash the gas around EVERY corner. that game kicks ! Forza for xbox is awesome too!
-
I found GRiD extremely fun.
It's been a while since I actually finished a racing game, since NFS is crap nowadays...
And the controls were perfect IMHO. -
I never tested grid but i tested GTR 2 which is suppose to be a simulator i guess and i hate that over arcade based driving. Not because am a noob like some if u like to say but simply because its boring.
-
But its stupid to call it a simulation with such poor depth in the different disciplines...
-
GRID > NFS. Grid is one of the better racing games right now. i find it easy to control the car.
-
-
I play GRID with my PS2 controller and I love it. At the beginning it was tuff, but with a couple of races you get to it.
Also, the driving and controls are very very similar to Gran Turismo, so I would qualify it as a simulator, as many aspects of the game are (or try to) emulate real world stuff. -
and just for the record, I always use manual shifting, as well as hand brake whenever is needed, and don't keep the throtle always on full, and actually use regular brakes too.
however, the streering, and thus the overall car control, feels like the car is out of alignment .. And is not even realistic since the car will turn (change direction) everytime I step on the side bricks on a corner. In reality, the car would bump and lift up that side that goes over the bricks, but not change direction that bad as in the game, considering that the driver is holding the steering wheel tight. The game feels like I've taken my hands off the steering wheel so that the car will do whatever it wants when I step on the bricks ... -
-
I played with both keyboard and logitech momo racing wheel and both of them took time to adjust. The momo wheel is so realistic to the racing of the game. Oversteer will make you spin out just like real life and the graphics are awesome
-
Grid is not a sim even given its Race Driver heritage since Codemasters actively tried to make the game more casual-friendly (I hate using the term arcade here since there hasn't been a true arcade racer in ages along the lines of Ridge Racer or OutRun), Forza and Gran Turismo are sims even if they're not as in-depth as Live for Speed, rFactor or iRacing, and the endless "is it a sim" arguments that pop up with anything that isn't somehow related to Papyrus or Simbin gets dull quickly, particularly when they've got some realism issues and concessions of their own (as every sim does... as someone once said, if you try to build the perfect sim you'll just wind up making a car).
THAT SAID
What settings are you running at? For some reason the PC version of this gave me a slight bit of input lag that the console version didn't have, but it made all the difference and driving was a miserable experience as a result. -
multiplayer is god awful
-
alright, I managed to gain some control over the car
I'm using the -10 stearing linearity, as falcon2claw suggested (10x, reps), and the dead center is at 20% right now, which seems to be OK.
I don't know why I adjusted it only to the positive linearity and never tried the negatives before, lol.
so I will be playing it a little -
GRID - this game sux
