    I have a HP ENVY 17,
    windows 8.1.
    i7-4702MQ
    16g of ram
    1T of hdd
    GeForce GT 750M.
It is up to date on all drivers including the BIOS.

I know the problem. During gaming everything is fine and then the GPU goes to 0 from 100% and the CPU goes from mid 30's to 100%. Temps are at 70c for all cores and gpu. I run it on a cooling pad. Throttling? Bottlenecking? Or just a crappy laptop? Please help. Thank you.

Use latest ThrottleStop and uncheck BD PROCHOT.

First off, thank you for replying, you two are the only two that have attempted to help me. Can I uncheck the BD in a laptop and if so, how do I go about doing this?

First, thank you for replying. You two are the only ones so far that has been willing to help. So is 70C too high? This is a premade HP laptop and can take a LOT to pull apart and repair. Any other avenues in order to fix or is this the absolute best option? Any chance the PSU is not enough?

You need to download and run a program called ThrottleStop and uncheck the BD PROCHOT option inside it.

No, but it could potentially cause it to overheat if your cooling is inadequate.

Does it not seem odd that a two-three year old game can cause it to heat up that much? And do you think it is the GPU overheating or the CPU? I am sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me. Seems odd it cannot cool itself properly when smaller systems I have had have run these games without throttling while being pushed.

I have not. I am worried about further damaging my system. If I run it, is there a way to tell if it will cause damage or can it just cause the damage in one go and my system is done?

GT750M not only throttle due to temperature, it also throttle due to power consumption. Using throttle stop will stop your cpu throttling but not gpu. I have not fouynd any solution except changing my laptop from GT 750M.
