I know it seems a little odd of a question but I am surprised I cannot find an answer via google. How does a GT 330M in my VAIO compare to a desktop GPU? I am playing TOR and getting not such great performance from my desktop with an old 9800GT, and curious what level of desktop GPU the 330M would be equivalent to.

Probably worse than the 9800gt. Probably around GT220 level.

Yeah, pretty lowend if you compare it to desktop performance. AMD/ATI 6470 level or nvidia eq.
9800GT will be much faster since it has more the double amount of shaders, higher clocks, 256bit instead 128bit, etc.
So GT330M performance will be only half of the 9800GT ones.

    Bummer.

It sounds like if I want to play TOR with any seriousness I am going to have to do some serious upgrades. The last thing I thought of just now is maybe I could SLI my 9800GT (note it is only 512mb version) for a big boost at affordable... but I think it is old enough now they are hard to find.

Maybe SLI two cheap cards would be a better bet... I would have jumped on that 6850 or whatever on sale for $130 or so after rebate if I were 100% confident my PSU would handle it :(

with another 9800gt in SLI you would have plenty of power to pay anything really. My brother runs on a 8800 GTX and he plays BF3 and other new game just fine

What's your budget? With AMD in the process of launching Southern Islands and Kepler being close on the horizon, I'd expect steep discounts on AMD's 6000 series and Nvidia's 500 series over the next month or two.
