I have set my Preferred Graphics Processor to 'High-performance nvidia processor' in the NVIDIA control panel but it was useless..And BIOS doesn't have any settings for me to select video card priority..
Does all gt335 on i5 mean NVIDIA optimus is supported? Honestly i just want to set the gt335 as default for good. Am at my wits end...
Pls helpp!!

.... Yes, Optimus is supported. What do you mean it's not doing any good? Are you gaming and having poor performance?
-
Optimus automatically switches to your nvidia card on the fly when the computing power is required. What games are you trying to play and what results are you getting that you aren't satisfied with? How have you determined it is not enabled? It won't be enabled in Windows desktop until it gets a 3D load.
-
thank you for replying.
So am i right to say, there's no way to using GT335 permanently?
By the way i'm not even sure if my model has optimus because my model is not listed here
Optimus Technology
And there's no Optimus Technology sticker pasted on the notebook as well.
In device manager though, there is Intel HD graphics and gt335.
By the way, i connected it to my TV via HDMI and still it uses Intel HD Graphics. I have not installed any games at the moment but i will later. Is there any quicker way of causing GPU load? -
-
thanks for the suggestion. i'll go try it out.
however gt335 doesn't even come out when running windows experience index test. praying that the July nvidia drivers is smart enough to let gt335 come up when necessary -
Yes, you can keep it on the 335m permanently. Go to 'global settings' in the nvidia control panel and select the 335m as your preferred GPU instead of 'auto-select'. That will keep the 335m on.
Just play any 3d game or demo to cause load. You can actually test the difference with 3dMark06 between the Intel HD and 335m. To do that, select 'auto-select' in global, then click 'program settings' tab and there switch 3dMark06 settings back and forth between Intel HD and the 335m.
Regarding the WE test, if you have the GPU set on auto select, the aero score will be your Intel score and the gaming graphics should be your 335m score. If they're both showing up the same (4.0 or thereabouts) then yes there may be a driver issue and the update should take care of it. -
I have set the preferred card to NVIDIA high performance processor in the NVIDIA control panel, but when i run dxdiag, it still shows intel HD graphics.
I have the latest 7/9/2010 nvidia drivers. however i did not install the Nvidia optimus drivers as my laptop is not in the specified list. -
point to add...my furmark score was 1781..was the gt335 used??
on furmark it says: renderer: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD -
3dMark06 may say the Intel HD as opposed to the 335m, even when the 335m is engaged. But, If you scored 1781, that is the Intel HD surely.
1) Go into your nvidia control panel and on the left panel click "manage 3d settings".
2) Then in the right panel click 'global settings' and select 'auto'.
3) Then go to the 'program settings' and you should find 3dMark06 there. Set it to the 335m.
4) click apply.
5) Run 3dmark06 again and let us know what it scores. -
i tried
choosing high performance processor as the preferred processor,
using 'auto' under Global Settings and 'High performance processor' for furmark (somehow furmark.exe gets recognized as Enemy Territory:Quake Wars)
right clicking furmark and selecting 'run with graphics processor-high performance NVIDIA, which is already shown as (default)
BUT none of them got me a score beyond 1.8k.
The GPU activity utility shows furmark, but doesn't show how much load is being used.
should i bring it to the retailer?
Point to add, during the running of the benchmark itself, the top right corner shows , in white,
Renderer: GeForce GT335M/PCI/SSE2.
though after the run, the results screen shows renderer:intel hd graphics -
What does GPU-z report for GPU load?

@namaiki
wow...i can indeed select gt335 from gpuz

Supremesabre, right click Furmark and click Integrated graphics and let it do a test.
What score do you get then? Also, be careful not to mix up 3DMark06 and Furmark scores. -
1) What happens when you change the preferred GPU to 335m under global settings? Still getting 1800?
2) You're seeing 'enemy territory'?? If you go under graphic settings in nvidia control and then program settings, you should see 3dmark06 there. If you don't, then 'add' and go to the directory 3dmark06 is installed in and find the .exe application file that you would click to start 3dmark06 and select that and set it to 335m. Apply. Then run 3dmark06 again.
If you're still having issues after that, I would uninstall the video drivers and get a fresh start. Perhaps the drivers from the manufacturer are causing a conflict with the new drivers.
Also, I would try downloading a game demo of one of the newer games out like Mass Effect 2 or Crysis demo at crysisdemo.com .
In regards to one of your other posts, the Optimus is built into the nvidia drivers from July.
Try those couple of things and let us know -
damian5000, 1781 is the FurMark score.
-
Sorry if I stressed you bud (original poster) I have no reference point for FurMark, so perhaps you're all good. Download a game demo and give it a go. The Intel HD won't run Crysis...At least not at playable framerates. -
Just downloaded and ran FurMark. You're all good Sabre. The Intel HD scored 30. I have the same notebook as you and scored 1750 with the 335m.
If you really want the 335m on all the time just set your preferred GPU to 335m and that's it. You're good to go. There's really no reason for that though, the Intel HD will handle your regular everyday stuff and Windows Aero no problems.
And, sorry for any confusion I caused you. -
it's alright....learnt a lot of things from u guys. Thanks for all the prompt followups.
What i need is just reassurance that i'm good to go, because i just bought the notebook, and i'd want it exchanged for a radeon model if there's so many known issues with it(so many stories of graphics card not firing up when it's supposed to)within the 7 days. It would be best to settle it on the retail level and avoid having to argue with asus about a new technology that doesn't seem ready. Point is, they don't have the optimus sticker nor mention that this laptop is optimus tech supported. I have already planned my argument regarding a misinformed purchase
So am i right to say the GT335 will be fired up whenenver necessarily, but i will never be able to get it to explicitly show in dxdiag or other programs?
HOWEVER I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM!!
When i connect this notebook to my sony tv via hdmi, it cannot be maximised to fullscreen! the intel HD panel scaling options are already maxed. Before optimus, my notebook with gt220 had absolutely no problems playing videos on my TV via hdmi. All i had to do was a little scaling in NVIDIA control panel. Contrarily, the nvidia ctrl panel for gt335 shows extremely limited options. It's as though Intel HD Graphics is the main gpu and GT335 is non existent.
I remember reading that when connected via hdmi, it WOULD DEFINITELY use gt335. damian have u tried the hdmi to TV before?
And one more thing...do you have problems of extremely low volume for Bluray??(using the preloaded cyberlink powerdvd) -
Perhaps have a look on your TV for a 1:1 pixel option, full pixel, direct pixel mapping, or something like that to adjust for scaling.
-
I've had absolutely zero issues with this model laptop with the Optimus switching.
From one stand point, the Intel HD is the main GPU. The 335m is there for graphically intensive programs only, such as playing games. The Intel HD is more than capable of handling everything else.
Sorry, I haven't experimented with HDMI as of yet so can't help with that. Perhaps software such as VLC which allows you to easily scale may help. And you should be able to use the 335m through the HDMI. -
posting back to say i finally solved this problem...hope this can help others:
Everything is done in Intel HD control panel
force custom resolution 1920 x 1080. 32bit 60 hz. At first my TV says unsupported input(though my tv is 52" fullhd sony bravia which cost a lot).
SO i chose 59hz and it worked. Then i changed it to 60hz from 59hz and well...it works!!
Scaling is done in intel HD control panel too
Nevertheless...pls advise if my mentioned method would spoil my hardware??
One more point to add! make sure your HDTV is not just your Primary display but your ONLY display! meaning do not even output to your laptop display. choose that using either ur laptop function key or right click > screen resolution...Otherwise it won't work! you won't get to select 1920 x 1080
thanks
**edit
WHen i switch my resolution back and forth refresh rate gets turned back from 60hz to 59hz. so i suppose i shouldn't mess with it and keep it at 59hz
GT335m not enabled in AsusA42JV29
