I recently bought my new laptop as well as GTA EFLC. My problem is that whenever I play the game, after a couple of minutes (2-5) the screen freezes and after a few seconds the entire screen "turns off" completely. The sound also disappears. The only option I have is to restart the computer using the power button. This happens at all settings (lowest/highest) alhough it usually takes abit longer for it to happen with low settings.
My laptop: Acer Aspire 7551G
AMD Phenom II X4 N930
ATI Radeon HD 5650
4GB DDR3 Memory
500GB HDD
Screen: 17.3" HD+ LED LCD (1600x900 res.)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
(And yes, I bought a legal copy of the game.)

MahmoudDewy Gaming Laptops Master Race!
maybe overheating ..... try using HWinfo32 to check your temps while playing and check if they are within reasonable range
-
Will do that now
EDIT: I tried HWinfo32 and the sensor status says that during gameplay my CPU is at about 79 degrees celsius and GPU at 75. (Right before the screen goes dark.)
I suppose this is too hot and that might be the problem. Now, how to solve? Any tips? ;P -
Well, my temperatures while gaming (Asus N61 with core i7-720 and ati 5730 MR) are significantly higher than that, so I suspect it is not a temperature issue..
Someone with the Acer Aspire 7551 G would be able to shed more light on that, though.
Meanwhile, just update/reinstall all the drivers, in case it is a driver issue..
(Before this problem started, had you changed/installed any new drivers/softwares? In which case, uninstalling them may solve your problem)
PS: For reducing heat, try undervolting your CPU(if it is possible, have read that it possible using k10stat?).
Have read that undervolting GPU is also possible, though it comes with far more risk and much lesser gains(ie. reduction in temp)..
Another option would be to buy a notebook cooler, though it is unlikely to significantly reduce temps.(Again, fellow Aspire users would be able to recommend to you a good notebook cooler which suits your laptop and would be effective) -
Okay, it is not a heat problem. Managed to keep my comp at around 65 degrees while playing and it still goes dark on me. As for the drivers, I had the problem before installing any drivers. I'll go look for some driver updates now, though.

Ok. Also try patching EFLC to the latest version. (it is 1.2 I blv?)
Also, have you tried playing any other modern games(games like say Bad Company II,Crysis Warhead,SC 2 etc..) in this laptop? -
EFLC is patched to 1.1.2 and it does not help. Drivers are updated, though no improvements. I think I made an important discovery though, I tried to play Left 4 Dead on max settings and sure enough, the same thing happened there, so its not EFLC there is something wrong with, but rather my graphics card I suppose.

driver update... it looks like GPU problem...
-
This I have found to be a problem with the GPU/Mem Clocks being 157/200 then jumping to 500/800 when a game is launched.
When I set the clocks with AMD GPU Tool (not OC normal 3d clocks) I no longer have any issues since it doesn't have to switch speeds. -
I have the same problem. When I play Alien Swarm or Starcraft 2 for about 10 min I get the black screen and no sound, thus I also have to use the power button to turn the laptop off. Used Speedfan and was around 65-70 degrees. Team Fortress 2 I can play for an hour before it happens... but it still happens.
Khaldum, is this a solution to the problem? -
Yes manualy set the clock speed with AMD GPU Clock Tool 550/800 and you wont have that problem anymore.
to have it set the clocks after every boot just make a shortcut to the AMD GPU Clock Tool and put this in the "Startup" folder
"C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=550 -mem=800
if you are running windows 7 32bit:
"C:\Program Files\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=550 -mem=800
and the version you are looking for is "v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870"
