Is there anyway to get a Logitech Dual Action USB controller to work on GTA IV or do I need to shell out 60 bucks for a wireless xbox 360 controller for windows?

This is always an option too:
Download XBOX 360 controller emulator for PC games
I had to use it to make Street Fighter 4 work with my home built arcade setup because it is picky about controllers it works with. -

Tried to install the 360 emulator. got this error
deleted the files. got it again. went to control pannel--->uninstall softaware--->GTAIV---->Change---->Repair still getting it. How do I fix this without losing my game save? -
x360 emulator is a 32 bit only program, you have to get the 64 bit version, there was a beta version but i think they took it down, fortunately i kept the files so i can send them to you if you want.
wait, scratch that, there is a better way, GTA4 supports your controller by default, but the 1.2 patch disabled that function. all you need to do is
right click the game launcher, click Properties, look in the Target, it should be something like this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe"
Add -usedirectinput at the end so it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -usedirectinput
if that doesn't work, there is another way.
in the folder where you installed the game, make a new txt file named commandline and copy the following content into the txt file
"-usedirectinput"
including the quotation marks and save it. that worked for me.
then launch the game and see if it's working -
I had the same problem a few months ago. I too use a logitech dual action usb and works great. Got the info from HERE. Give it a try

Sure i'd like that. But how do I get GTA IV to open again?
-
I use a Logitech Wireless rumblepad 2 for GTAIV
Just turn on direct input on in GTAIV controller settings but you need GTAIV latest patch first. It was added when patch 1.0.3 came out -

^I tried that. Just didn't like the setup. May just live with it. still the issue of opening GTA IV now

I have used the 360 controller emulator on my desktop and its 64bit and I do not recall getting any beta of a 64bit verson.
