The xbox 360 uses an ati graphics card. Its very similar to the ati radeon x1950 the ps3 has a graphics card similar to the 7800gtx. Also i play gta4 and i dont have stuttering problems other then when there are many things going on.

6) KNOWN ISSUES
_______________________
NVIDIA:
General:
Occasionally the tree leaves will appear as square boxes.
6000/7000 series cards:
Cars do not show damage.
Changing the resolution or minimizing the game can sometimes result in visual
corruption. You can restart the game to resolve this issue.
ATI:
General:
A slightly visible diagonal line appears across the screen.
1900 or less series cards:
Cars do not show damage.
3600 series cards:
Can show very noticeable banding.
3870 X2:
Rain drops show up as bright white / red dots on screen
Crossfire game side bugs:
Interior and Night time shadows blink until approached.
When transitioning from interior to exterior the screen will pulse with different
intensities of light for a few seconds.
On occasion the water will jitter rapidly.
But again, don't know if it is incidental. BTW the 7900 card was mentioned in the minimum specs, so I recon that means it will run the damage, but a card like 7600 won't -

I'm having second thoughts about getting it now. Just read a load of threads with people getting a$$ performance. If a quad and gtx260 run it at 25fps my system will run it at 5fps
.

Well it just means that middle-end laptop owners can forget abut GTA... Thx Rockshit...
-
Today saw it being played at my uni on an alienware laptop with a 9800m GT. The game's graphics looked poor and it still managed to glitch. I couldnt really bother asking too much from the person but from what it looked like, not even close to High. At one point when he looked at a couple police cars chasing him, the game turned into a slide show.

guys come one we cant jump to conlusions, we just gotta hope that when fixes/drivers come out all these problems will be solved i hope so as i want GTA on steam.....
-
In what way they would help ? 20% of performance improvement is max they can do about it. And that would mean the game still won't be playable on laptops...
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
good job i didnt pre-order this, best of luck to those that buying without knowing about the performance i dont think i could.
-
I think it will be playable on laptops. Just keep the settings low...

Advice: go to a friends house who has a console to play this one
-
I got really hyped for this and Fallout3 and they both ended up being disappointments (IMO). Screw it, I'm waiting till they fix this bull $hit to buy. We get games like this and companies blame pirating for bad sales figures.
-
I was doubting its optimization the moment I saw the system requirements. Such insane high requirements to get the game playing at 25fps is not acceptable at all.
-
somebody must have tried EXTREMELY hard to code a game so pathetically. They must have employed some right douches to screw up so badly...
-
ive got another 90 minutes before i can download it from steam.
pre ordered it and got vice city free. played 5 minutes of that and gave up. -
im holding off my purchase for now.
-
well.......i bought a new desktop just for GTA 4, with a 1GB 4850....only to find out that GTA 4 is banned in my country!!!!!
-
A driver fix will probably greatly improve performance.
-
banned, behind closed doors who would know or is the problem actually being able to buy it. -
-
Hey guys, would the laptop in my sig handle this game ok?
-
Judging for what i've read it's definitely not the best optimized game out there, but it's certainly not a bad port at all. I mean, some people were expecting to play this at some very unrealist resolutions and settings.
Imho it's just about messing around with draw distance and car denisty and all that more than anything else.
There are no final words yet, (and i'm still waiting for more reviews to come) but i think this'll be a well optimized game, but just that >well<
Btw, some people had ''Draw distance'' set to 100, and for what i've researched the console versions had it set to 30 or something like that, so that could be the source of the bad framerates... -
-
Wow, that is really pathetic. I bought the game for xbox360 when it came out. The graphics weren't really outstanding, but I can understand how this game might be very cpu and RAM intensive.
Is it too much to ask for a game to be properly ported these days? I don't want to wait for new drivers or a patch just so I can play a game on the lowest settings. Sorry Rockstar, you're lost a customer today. This game could have been great and I haven't seen any reason why it needs to have the best hardware presently available only to look less impressive than Far Cry2 and still lag like hell... -
Critics seem to like it, http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/grandtheftauto4
Though we all know how completely unreliable game reviewers are. The game is unlocked on steam right now for those of you who might have pre ordered or purchased it. I'm still waiting to hear some thoughts from people here.. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
soemthing tells me this game is going to be a hige DISAPPOINTMENT
which is ashame as 32player online would have be sweet -
oi oi , u guys are scaring me lol , will my laptop hold up then?? (in sig)
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
from what i have heard desktops cards are struggling to play it so we laptop owners are screwed
-
i dont have a good desktop ... this laptop is all i have lol
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah i only have my laptop - Q6600, 3GB ram and 8800m GTX and something tells me even this beast is going to struggle to play it.
it sounds even more poorly optimized then crysis -
does it genuinly require such high end computers or are there other issues...it shud run atleast as good as consoles lol
as a side note , cud the film editor be at fault for this performance? -
The game runs like $hit on my system. The most frustrating thing is that the game limits what settings you can use. Even with everything low, I cant even get to a res of 1280x720. Im forced to play the game on 1154x640 with low textures and medium everything else. The game looks really bad with my current settings above but I am able to get about 30 fps.
I really hope Rockstar fixes this quick or has an explanation for the poor performance. Ive been reading people with GTX 260s are having trouble running the game; that is unacceptable.
I have been really looking forward to this game and I'm really disappointed. -

I'm still trying to get this game installed. This is the most frustrating and tedious install process I've ever had to put up with. Rockstar Social Club, then GTA IV, then Games for Windows Live, then this absolutely ridiculous release date checking thing, and now all these updates. Jeeze....I miss the days where you installed the game, played it, and just connected to a master server inside the game like in UT2004 or World in Conflict.

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i want to see what people get with similar specs to mine
-

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i guess its not that bad considering what ive been hearing
-
the gfx dont look terrible at those settings lol , looks like console to me , gunna fiddle with settings to max (to whatever degree lol) out where i can
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
cool from what ive heard its more CPU intensive what is CPU speed?
i have a Q6600 @ 2.4Gzh x 4 -
3.0ghz core 2 duo , gunna oc it to 3.2 to see if there is any major difference
just been playing the game , framerate is stable , but likes to dip down to 22 then rise back up to 35fps but i am keep to find out how i can increase my system memory usage cos then i wud be able to use higher res textures
graphically is acceptable , but i think patching and fiddling is required -
also my laptop starts to get pretty hot while playing , it wasnt this high while playing crysis
-
also lemme add that with steam i didnt get a product key
which means i cant play online yet!!!
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
bummer whats the FPS like does it go up and down alot? or is it more constant?
-
Does it use SM 2.0 or 3.0?
-
I'm pretty certain it uses 3.0
-
Thanks, and is there a 64-bit version of GTA IV or only a 32-bit version?
-
Good luck running this with decent visuals on anything lower than an 8800/9800 series mobile GPU. Anything under around 2.5 GHz on the CPU also (Core 2 Duo / Quad GHz).
