i know this is kinda "wishful thinking" so to speak, but it is it possible to run GTA IV on my notebook? I don't mind running it on the lowest Res and Gfx settings. Is there any hope in hell that it'll run or should i buy it on PS2 (if it's even out on PS2)?
-
It's not out on PS2.
But, if you're lucky, it MAY run on the lowest (from seeing everyones post) only because of your processor.
Your processor gives you hope.
What I would recommend is, buying it from a place you can return it.
You do have a chance of running it.
Its only out for PC, 360, PS3. -
ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
no not really.
-
NO WAY.
you should buy a 360
or a pc with hd4850 at least..
I can "run" it with my g1s (8600mgt)
just "run"
not "play" -
ratchetnclank: thanks for the honesty lol

Hey Ramyk, you may have chance. If you can drop down the settings to absolute low and overclock your graphics card, I would bet you could get 10-25 fps. I, personally, categorize playable at 40+ fps (preferably 55+), but then again I did play games at 15-20 fps for 2 years on my old acer. I am a graphics freak but if you are not super meticulous, then you may be ok. ESPECIALLY, if you update your graphics driver to 180.84 and install the latest patch, two things many people have not done before testing. SemiGamer has a great suggestion with picking a flexible retailer. This is one of the main reasons demos are built, but it is a money saving tactic to not do it. On this fact alone, I have stopped buying a lot of the newest games as I want to test it with my settings and then make a decision. Good luck.
-
i'm willing to drop the GFX settings to the absolute minimum along with the RES but i don't want to overclock, i'm planning on using this notebook for at least 4-5 years and i can't afford to fry my gfx card..With regards to FPS, i play GRID, FAR CRY, CRYSIS, TDU, COD5, all on the lowest settings without overclocking so i'm used to low FPS...i think i'm gonna give it a whirl. Dyou think ít'll be playable without overclocking?
-
Not sure. I should have clarified, with the overclocking, I am very conservative. I would go 50% of average stated max clocks that other users have reported. As long as your temps stay controllable, you should be ok. Without overclocking, it may work as well. See if you can drum up anyone on laptopvideo2go.com forums that has used a 9200M card and see what clocks and fps they are seeing.
-
thanks, like i said, i'll give it a try without overclocking, wish me luck
btw the nVIDIA autodetection thingy said i have v175.53 -
(sings) no no no no nooooooo no no no no nooooooo (/sings)
Laptop Manufacturers will usually give the poor version of graphic card drivers. Hell if I still used my dell laptop drivers I'd be back in 2005.
Since you're nVidia, go look at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
Make sure you follow the steps exactly (remembering to clean old drivers before installing the new ones). -
oh ok..sure, i'll download it now, but it's 1 driver for all those cards
?
-
nVidia are smart basicalliy
laptop2go is just a fix version of offiial nVidia (hav sandwich in other hand) -
ok well i just uninstalled the driver, the screen now looks like s*** , i double clicked the new driver and it said "unable to exctract bla bla" so now i'm stuck with the s***ty screen
-
redownload, it sometimes gets corrupted.
-
does any1 have a direct link i can use coz i want to use DAP...The download's gonna take time, is there a driver setup in SWsetup i can use temporarily?
*180.84 didn't work, i'm gonna download the one off the HP website, their server is unbelievably slow!! i guess i'll have to tough it out without my games for tonite -
yeah there is a driver in the swsetup folder.
Go to C:\SwSetup\Drivers\Video -
thanks m8, u posted a little too late
i already restored, thankfully the uninstall created a restore point so i didn't lose anything important..
-
ramyk, don't waste your time and money trying to run GTA IV on that system. Anything below a quad core processor and atleast a 9800m gtx (equivalent to desktop 8800) will struggle to run this game. And running GTA below 30fps is crap. Especially when you have those high speed police chases and burning vehicles, even high end GPUs are finding it difficult not to stutter.
-
hmm...thanks, i heard there were lots of patches and stuff coming out to help with the performance issues..will it help if i wait?
-
I guess it depends on preferences. If you can pull of 20fps, I would say go for it.
I get 20fps and I'm fine with the game. -
i'm fine with 15 or above fps, i play crysis WH at 18-25 fps, the question is, can my GPU output that many fps?
-
It will do its best, but its unlikely/impossible, seeing as an OC'ed 8600gt only just does it.If your not willing to OC your 9200 then theres no point in even hoping.
Trust me on this, I own a 9200 and I can tell you straight, if you attempt to play this you will only be disappointed.
Saarwy,
MP -
thanks, i'll wait till i get a new computer then
-
I think you'd be wasting money on the game if you tried to play it on your system. As said before, high-end desktops are getting only -decent- framerates, I understand you'd be willing to sacrifice resolution and quality, but seriously, don't sell yourself short and get on two knees to attempt to play the game. It's not going to be worth it at 10FPS or lower, I can see the 9200M GS buckling as soon as am explosion occurs or a car chase begins. The processor is seriously bottlenecked by the GPU, so as decent as the T9400 looks, it won't help either way.
Seriously, there's so many other games available that's fine on medium settings on that card. Just because you're getting some sort of framerate, like 10 or 15 (which is unlikely), doesn't mean you should accept it and waste your time. In fact, one of the most enjoying experiences of GTA4 is it's environment and scenery, and how fast paced or crazy things get. You don't want to be delivering packages while gunning down two crooked SOBs in their car in the speed of a slideshow. The game deserves more, do justice to it by not playing it, and do justice to your card by playing things that suit it. Don't try to take down the top-dog right now, you'll end up not enjoying the experience...
Good luck -
errr. Well I'm running the game at 25FPS or something. I'm pretty sure I was running the game WITH VSYNC for a few hours so thats 20FPS. And I found its pretty easy to play from starting the new game. I only noticed I was running at 20FPS when it dropped really low the next day when it rained like hell in game. Heavy down pour is my only trouble in this game lol.
My specs are: T7350 C2D, and 9600M GT. Oh and not using Vista since I think its bloat.
Of course if you're using Vista... make sure to use DX9 and NOT DX10.
Running (Med Tex, High Render, 20/20/100/0 @1024x768)
However I have noticed that is game is fricken unoptimized like hell.
For some reasons benchmark gave @ 1024*768
20fps for BOTH my normal settings and LOWEST settings with VSYNC on.
I mean lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if I got 20fps as well with 800*600. -
-
Someone got it running on a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS using lowest everything and getting an average of 28 fps. You should be fine.
-
According to notebookcheck.com, the Go 7900 GS scores 2-3 times as much as the 9200M GS on 3DMark06, I don't see how he should be fine.
-
The 9200M GS on notebookcheck.com is for DDR3 running at stock 700MHz. AFAIK the dv4t uses DDR2 at stock 400MHz.
-
Oh god even worse...
-
Don't buy the game; save some money and look at a slideshow of GTA4 screenshots online for free
@RAM, (OT) will you post some benchmarks once you put in the T9800 and maybe the new RAM? That 770M OCs like crazy. -
That's if I still have my M4400 by the end of Jan 2009. I'm thinking of selling it for $1500-2000, buying a super ultra cheap netbook for my 1 required C++ class, and building my i7 desktop w/ when the new GTX295 comes out.
I'm thinking I have to do it. I have to do it for Half-Lifeeven though episode 3 will probably run maxed on an OC'd 770M LOL. A T9800 is over $400, its only 2.93GHz. 8GB PC2-6400 RAM is also $750+ dollars.
With $1150 I could buy an i7 920 and OC it to 3.7GHz, the EVGA X58 3X SLI motherboard AND have money left over for the TWO GTX295 cards! I don't know what to do, I love this laptop but desktop power is seriously calling out to me...a single GTX295 will score 5-6 times the amount an OC'd 770M scores in 3DM06...we're talking about easily breaking 20,000-21,000 on stock clocks and air cooling. Imagine if I OC'd my 920 to 3.7GHz, my DDR3 memory will follow it and then I can OC the GPU even more...no problems with Dell, no calling them up everytime I get an issue, no stupid BIOS downclocking, no crazy fans, no 3rd-world tech support...!
X_X GTA4 will be nothing, Valve games crumble and Crysis Warhead will be destroyed! And I'll be set for 3+ years on an i7/GTX295 build, considering the old 8800 GT still has fight in it in almost every game. The 770M is going to die next year, I know it! -
True.
It depends on what you want. A desktop is great for power but is a netbook adequate for C++?
lol, i somehow bypassed forum permissions and got an animated signature ;D -
Yeah it's going to a tough decision. I feel like leaving the M4400 is like leaving the cool kids, cause you cant show off your giant desktop (which smashes those ugly HPs everyone has in college) in public.
And yeah, as long as I get 1.7-2.0GHz, the netbook should be able to process .NET easily. -
Well right now all netbook CPUs are single core 1.6GHz Atoms.
-
Okay well I can always ebay a refurb 15.4" for cheap can't I lol.
*Edit: wow, just realized how much of a drop I will be making in terms of laptops. Stepping from a high-class business sexy top of the line mofo to a ebay refurb? Oh boy... -
btw, i'm typing this on my colleges ugly hp slim desktop. powered by p4 ht! -
italian.madness Notebook Consultant
Not true! -
OC'd Pentium E5200 can beat T9800 clocks easily...
-
italian.madness Notebook Consultant
aaahh ok, I missed "overclocked".. my fault-)
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
is it clocked higher or actually faster?
-
My 9800GTX on my desktop barely does the job.
-
i think, from all the advice till this point, i'm not gonna go for it lol..
The answers are really mixed, sum say i can't sum say i can, i personally think it's too iffy to risk itthanks anyways, i think i'm gonna try left 4 dead...
-
Lol, still say you should buy it from somewhere you can return it.
I mean if you can return it within a few days or so, why not just try it out?
Only one real way to see if it runs on YOUR system.... -
i donnoo, maybe sumday lol, i installed left 4 dead a couple of hours ago, runs great with almost everything on pretty high settings which suprised me actually....I'm used to putting everything on low before i even start a game lol
-
on a 9200m GS there is no way. Your CPU does give you some hope. If it does run I would have to say it has to be on the lowest res on the lowest settings and you will maybe get 15-20 FPS but again thats what I think.
-
Thats what he wants Halo.
Do you like Left 4 Dead? Like the game itself, story, etc. -
it's too soon to say, looks pretty interesting, it's not like most game where the enemies always show up in the same place..They'll show up in a million different places if u play the same level lots of times...As for the story and the rest of it, i'll tell u wen i've played it a bit more lol i'll be honest, i'm scared to it had me peeing my pants last night
-
Left 4 Dead was a great scary game. Now, it is trivial and cartoony, but at the beginning, it was a trip. The game that never gets old or any less scary is the Nazi Zombie mod for Call of Duty.
-
Haha.
How bout now? Play through it a bit more?
And where can you find that Nazi Zombie Mod, Gengerald?
GTA IV on 9200m GS possible??
