i have got my game today and i am very happy
however when i go into game
with a setting of viewing distance 10, 1680x1080, texture detail medium
i only get a benchmark of 26
and it gets worse while go into game that on street its only around 13 .....
that shd be the driver problem and i will try to fix it
can anyone tell me which driver shd i update to
or is there any other problems?
also for those who are using 9800m gts
wt fps shd i expect to get?
on the setting that i have stated
thank you
-
for me, I have vista business 64bit, with 180.70, nvidia 9800M GT, almost the same settings as yours, got FPS 33 max
-
Update your drivers to 180.84. These drivers should give you around 15 FPS more according to some people.
-
for his setup, i guess he'll get 6-8 FPS
-
using 180.84 i got like 20 - 23 fps
now i find a strange thing
when i try to set detail setting and restart the game
it will always go back to its default setting
also does anyone know wt setting will balance up performance and graphic?
which settings eat up the resources most?
i hope i can get a min 24 fps outside -

check this out, Rockstar recommends keeping all setting to default and not changing them. Personally i think they have kept performance low deliberately so as to force people to buy the new Core i7 processors
-
Some of the new i7 processors don't outperform intel quad core.
-
thats true, only the extreme processor does.
-
I thought at stock, the 920 was head on with qx9770?
-

yeah the extreme pushes out some real power thats why it still costs an arm and a leg especially in mobile form

So extreme is better than quad core?
-
I thought the i7 WAS quad core. But I get what you're saying. I do really want the extreme i7 quad a lot though...
-
lol, yeah i meant core 2 quad. 965xe is pretty sweet, but i think im gonna wait for lynnfield
-
i am getting around 23- 27 fps outside
even while setting all settings low and viewing distance of 1
is that the max i can get lol -
Well I remember someone around here said their friend recently hooked up a core i7 desktop w/ a geForce GTX280 and got 74FPS. With the amount of VRAM this game uses, seems I was right when I claimed a couple threads back that a mid-range GPU would not be a happy camper.
Monster CPU combined with monster GPU and you got a 2 monsters working together for your pleasure
. But think about how badly optimized this game is. My C2D 2.53GHz + FX 770M (same as 9600M GT) gets 71FPS in HL2 episodes. That guy has a quad, the fastest consumer quad mind you, probably overclocked, with nvidia's top ultra-high end GPU and gets 74FPS. Lol, c'mon R* you can do better.
-
the performance of GTA with any computer is really bad.
-
Not with my desktop rig
-
yeah right... Notebook users go and die plox
-
Nah the game just requires a pretty fast CPU, that´s where the problem is. We with 2.0-2.5 GHz CPU´s have some difficulty to run the game.
But the game is awesome and actually looks really good when you can put the textures on High
-
will see how it turns out on my 2ghz CPU.. i have a good feeling about this to tell you the truth
-
LOL brainer...DONT HAVE A GOOD Feeling
If someone with a 280 cant get over 100fps in this game then your setup should trip and fall against this game. -
Wait a minute, so in this case, the main core (processor) is the bottleneck, and not the video card (which is a 9800)?!
-
Yes it´s the processor that is the bottleneck.

I take it the euphoria engine included in the game will not use the nvidia physx acceleration?
-
evidently no, or it might be that physix just down right suck.
-
Lol agreed, a 280 getting 74FPS is NOT a good thing, so I'd like to see people saying they have a high-end desktop getting that tell me they are satisfied. I would expect higher from a game like GTA4, it's not even half as good looking as Crysis WH.
-
Too bad. Why not wait a year or 2 to play it like Crysis?
-
LOL if a QUAD CORE CPU is the RECOMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENT THEN we are going to need MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH more than 2 years to get it to run good.
it tooks us a year to release a 9800gx2 to play Crysis at playable on very high. and that was a 500 dollar card.
And since this game is coded worst than crysis then we will need more than 2 years to get to run good at an affordable price.
Which crysis warhead has been able to do on release. -
Now Crysis doesn´t have as much AI calculations like this game has. Remember every single car have quite smart AI in GTA IV and every pedestrian have their own AI. Now that takes some heavy CPU power.
And I can see by the temps that GTA IV does not stress the GPU a lot like Crysis for instance. -
WELL, i'm not playing on 1900x1200 Highest... so i wouldnt hold on that, besides, my machine is heavily tweaked.
-
so its my cpu 8300 doing bad lol
no way i can get up to 30 fps?
or maybe overclock it? -
Can someone tell me what is the best setting (Res/texture/rendering) for 30FPS avg gameplay with my system?
P8400/ 4GB DDR3/9800m GTS 1GB DDR3. -
You need a 3.0 CPU to run it decently, I`ve literally experienced the difference...darn it.
Yea, the CPU is the issue . I have a T8300 also and it stutters like a little b...
All low , 1280x800

id say medium at 1280 x 1024 i may be wrong though.
