No good.
It didnot worked and its not for SLI.
I modded the drivers to fit in my XPS 1730.
It still shows 490 of available memory in my 8800m gtx SLI. -
that's not how it works.
you can only use the memory off of one card and since your biggest card is 512...that's all you get.
but if you want to push past your 512 limit..then you need to run the -nomemrestrict
-norestrictions in a commandlin.txt file. bgut it will probably crash pretty quick...but anything is worth a try. -
Johnksss i'm going to pick up the game now, it has just arrived, just spit it out how is it working now! my blood is freaking boiling
-
in low res mode...seems to work without crashing. but them shadows and the way it looks to me..not cool. go check out my pics here. the true res is under each picture.

shadows are crap haha
-
did you get your copy yet??
-
So...Any big improvements?
-
nope! still getting the same low crappy frame rate as before. all i think they did was add the code allowing sli to show.. but work is a whole nother story...(speculation of course)
-

-
Hmm works pretty well with this driver I must say, though what is limiting me is my CPU in my notebook.

I have the earlier 180.84 from a couple days ago. It broke my HDMI output signal that was flawless under 176.15. In order to get 1080p output that fills the whole screen (as in without the 3 inch black frame on all sides) I have to lock things down to 24 Hz refresh rate. That produces tearing so I have to have vsync on too. I'm not thrilled about that. I saw a major performance boost the first time I ran 180.84 and the output was working for 1080p at 60 Hz. After a reboot later in the evening is when the HDMI output broke itself and the performance increase was mitigated. -
the shadow looks god awful!
-
wow johnkss, that looks better on my PS3 :|
you almost have to try hard to port something this bad -
lol realllyyyyy hard.
Im not even going to bother to get this game. If our members that have super mega high end laptops cant MAX this game out, then screw ROCKSTAR, go play games that take true advantage of you 3500$ rigs. -
-
johnksss you silly goose i received no such invites!
LIES AND WITCH! -
Ouch that sucks, sorry to hear this update sucks too.
Good to know they're working on it I guess... -
when i get back on there ill hit you up. if you see me and im not playing socom, hit me up as well. -
haha 4 sure, i just rented WaW though, it went back today
I hope to get it for x mas though. -

This driver sucks...
It increased my GPU temperature to 75 degree in desktop and 85-88 while playing Prince of Persia.
I resintalled the original 180.70 and got temperature 55-58 degree in desktop and 73 max whie playing games.
U decide? -

I 4got to mention its on XPS M1730 with 8800 SLI.

the thing that makes me scratch my head is people say the shadows suck but thats the STYLE of the shadows i have this game for 360 and the shadows look exactly the same the hazing is a style......
-
it's because the powermizer options are disabled in the desktop version. and maybe something else.
i use to love it with out, but not anymore..i always make sure the powermizer options are inserted into my inf file.
i love the game, but it's a few things they could or should have improved over the ps3/xbox. the main reason why people wanted to play on pc. higher end graphics...but looks like we will be waiting about a month for that. -

Lol im not supporting it im just trying to prove a point to people thats its not some graphical error or whatever that thats part of the game -
-
that driver is a trick. i already had sli enabled, but it kept crashing at high resolutions.. seems to work in super low res mod.
-
that first patch aint even the one every body is waiting for...it's to allow more controllers and some other nonsense. nothing to do with rendering them textures and other key points they really need to work on. (read this somewhere. not my words)
-
Dox released his optimized version of the re-release, moments ago.
-
guys, after playing the game a lil bit more, it doesnt look half bad, the reason while the screens look crap is that they are scaled down, i'm playing @ 1440x900 SLiders at max render Quality on high and textures on mid, and getting in the range on 20's with a Single 7950GTX, and the game is barley Jagged on Native res.. but still i need some SLI support
-
Johnksss I have around 20-30 fps at 1680x1050 however the game does not feel smooth at all. If I had a faster CPU the game would run much better.
brainer add this to a txt file and name it commandline.txt and place it it in GTA IV folder where the exe files are.
-availablevidmem 1024 of course you have to add -norestrictions too.
Now voila you can run with textures on High without any abnormalies
Actually my GTA IV on my desktop looks awesome, much better than my Xbox 360 version. I have around 30+ fps when driving around in the night, there are these occasional dips rarely which feels like memory leaks since they can happen even if there is not much traffic at that spot at that time.
Sometimes I have all the way up to 50+ fps outside. But during daytime usually 40+ driving around
hmm there seems to be more commands I would like to see what I could do if the game is tweakable. -
so Magnus.. by bypassing the 512mb limit of my card, i should be a much decreased performance right?
-
guess you guys are lucky...im going to try some other things thing.
-
nope not at all, didn´t notice any decrease in performance.
John yes pretty lucky, however it could run better. But performance is surpassing my 360 and looks better. I did get used to framerate dips in the 360 version. Maybe that is why I am not too sensitive if it dips down to 25 fps sometimes
I can only imagine how it would run if I had a quad
Oh by the way try this set Frames to Render Ahead to 8. This did some wonders to my desktop computer.
Also of course install Nhancer. I always use this. -
Magnus could I see a screenshot or two from your laptop?
So trying to figure out how P9500 at 2.53GHz + 9800M GTS runs it... -
guess im use to 50+ and up... this is throwing me for a loop....
ok, gonna give this another go and see what i come up with.
edit: ok, it's still crashing for me. when i try to run your txt file...im starting to wonder if a quad has a different effect... -
Hmm remove /high from the commandline.txt if it´s there and remove nomemrestrict too and see if that solves the problems.
Yeah I will take some screens of my laptop SemiGamer. Though I don´t play the game on my laptop but on my desktop instead. -
hummm, funny results jumping off now... once i disabled dep in the bios. it started working pretty good. i was seeing 60 frames that time. but averaging about 40...
-
Yeah have you turned off CPU throttling in the Bios John? I read that GTA IV has some problems with this and can put the CPU in throttling thereby lowering FPS. This would be fixed in the patch apparently.
-
dont have that in the bios, but made sure it wasn't throttling under windows. getting pretty good frame rates under 1280x1024. and th lower you go..the less sli works. it starts kicking in around 1280x1024. and as you go high, so does the sli rate, but you still lose frames though....
edit: also... game is taking up about 1.6 gigs of total memory at the moment..wow! -
Yeah I noticed that it takes up a lot of Ram.
GTA IV, SLI support released.
