    Agreed.

    As far as the PS3 goes, nobody has used its true power. The cell processor can calculate ridiculous amounts of data. What we are seeing right now is just a small portion of what the PS3 can do.

    Nice article: http://www.monstersandcritics.com/g...power_of_PlayStation_3_to_be_revealed_in_2008

    Look at GT5 for example; the game is gorgeous!

    And fyi, I like PC gaming, as well as the PS3, and XBOX 360. I see true potentials in every system. Each has an upper hand in different categories.

    I can't wait...all the GTA's were sweet on console...but it just seemed better on PC to me

    xbox tends to have wider color palette and crisper textures.

    ps3 tends to have better anti aliasing routines...

    so you know. whatevr.

    Stop the press!

    GTA IV on the PC has not been confirmed by Rockstar staff; the title on that PC Gamer issue is misleading, as the write-up was based largely on speculation by the author.

    well no the 360 is way more suited to heavy anti aliasing.

    is has 10MB of high bandwidth EDR RAM which reduces a large percentage of the load on the GPU

    I am afraid I beg to differ

    mojima:
    and also underlies the fact that calculating is all well and good but the GPU will always limit the system IMO especially by the fact that the GPU has less than 256MB of RAM to play with an expected to turn out huge resolution's an textures whilst undergoing antialiasing motion blur and HDR

    Don't get me wrong I aint no 360 fanboy and the 360 isnt that much better off just voicing my opinion.

    sorry to thread hijack...

    True I agree with reidy. This power of the PS3 was just hype. They have maxed out both consoles. I mean Rockstar didn´t code GTA IV bad it is the consoles that can´t handle it. So where is that hidden power I always hear about PS3? :)

    Who cares how much the Cell Processor can calculate? dont tell me the GPU of the PS3 can compete with our days GTX280...

    i wasn't talking about components or speculation.

    i meant it.

    i've played GTA4 on the ps3 and the xbox 360 and both consoles run GTA4... decently... (some framerate issues) and they both look good.

    but compared side by side the xbox 360 has sharper texture quality and a wider color range. the ps3 has better anti aliasing. im not saying the xbox doesn't do anti aliasing. just that the ps3 does it better. (im also not saying that the ps3 version has no color or textures)

    i don't really care about EDR RAM or GPU bandwidth, im just saying (and sticking to it) that in general, in the games i have seen on both consoles, the xbox seems to have better textures and color, and the ps3 has better anti aliasing.

    Not at all; good input :)

    I'm just going to give it some time. But judging from GT5, one can see the true potential of the PS3.

    PC will always have the upper hand because one can upgrade the parts at any given time, while with consoles you can only work with what you get.

    PC Developers have to optimise their engines to work well on a variety of platforms, with consoles you know what you are working with and you don't have to worry about cutting back for slower machines!

    GTA IV on the 360 runs at native HD 720p res, with 2xAA, the PS3 runs at 630p with no AA, but a filter effect to blur out aisling issues.

    Depends how you look at both versions, the PS3 has colder colours, while the 360 is more vibrant and warmer looking, you can always mess around with the ingame saturation effects to mimic the other consoles colours if you really wanted to.

    I see what you are getting at, but at the same time, computers get major updates every couple of months. With a PC game, you can have it run on an average system, but you can also make it utilize the most up -to-date hardware for amazing graphics and physics for those who have the hardware to run it (ie changing graphic settings). For consoles, they don't have to worry about different platforms because all the machines are the same, but at the same time, there is only so much they can do based on the power the system is giving them to work with.

    The car models is all you need to see what PS3 can do. If they don't put as much work into the tracks, that's another issue.

    Why does the discussion of GTA IV for PC have to turn into consoles vs. PCs on each and every forum?

    Console people should not even touch this topic. You've got GTA IV, you've got your precious Xbox, you've got your 'awesome' 32" whatever, GO PLAY.

    Leave us be and let us wait for the game, and play it ourselves.

    Bye.

    There is no debate. The PS3 Is Strictly for gaming, whereas a computer can do so much more.
    They`re dfferent categories of things, it`s like comparing a trailer with a car.
    Both carry people, but the car can do so much more than that, it can be used for racing, it can be used for picking up girls, showing off, get a social status etc whereas the trailer is meant stricly for transportation.

    LOL, that's great!

    PS3 and XBOX360 are centered around gaming, but don't forget that PS3 also plays BluRays, and both systems can be turned into home media centers. Consoles these days do more than just gaming. Of course you can do so much more with the PC. :D

    The Recommended Requirement for GTA IV have been released:

    * OS: Windows XP SP2
    * Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
    * RAM: 2GB
    * Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space
    * Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader
    * Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive

    These requirements seems monstrous, especially the video card requirements. 512 MB of vRAM? Seriously?

    EDIT: Source: http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Games/Pages/grandtheftautoiv.aspx

    That source doesn't even mention the minimum requirements. I think the directx 9 requirements will be a bit lower...most directx 9 cards don't even have 512mb of video ram.

    I sincerely don't believe those requirements since they have not been officially released by Rockstar. I believe they are just vague estimates of the GFW staff.

    very exciting seeing this game coming out soon. 10/10

    As for playing it on my 8600m gt gddr3, I highly doubt it will play better than crysis, judging from gta sa the game will prob require a 8800 gtx in your laptop to play max settings at native rez. Im just hoping the optimize reflections/shadows enough to allow for mid range cards to handle medium settings with unnoticable IQ loss. I think I average 40 fps in gta:sa, and with the enb series mod I get about 33 avg, so adding reflections and shadows shouldnt hurt framerates to much, I'm expecting the high polygon counts with the light sources to kill performance the most a further 10 fps..so on max Im expect 23 fps at 1280x800 with the 8600m gt..similar to cod4 max settings..
