Just got it and was wondering who else here was playing? I figure alot of notebooks should be able to play this since the requirements are so low.

if you are playing list your specs.

Big news: The game is now rated Adults Only (AO) because of that "Hot Coffee" mod. :(

I'm playing it now. My Thinkpad T42 has Mobility Radeon 9600 that can run this game with virtually no lags at 1024x768x32 or with some lags at 1400x1050x32. My desktop currently has a pathetic 64-bit GeForce FX5200 (which I will only upgrade in late September), so I'm stuck playing it on the laptop. Not bad actually! I play it at my dorms all the time. The problem is that all other students in my dorms have integrated video in their laptops, so they can't play it properly and they all gather around my laptop to play it or to watch me play it. Hard to study, lol.

    Overall: great game.

I've played the PS2 version, it is quite fun. If it wasn't rated AO, I'd probably get it.

I hope I'd be able to run it well. I've only got 512MB of RAM, but I will be upgrading, come September.

    I'm excited for that.

    I play SA on my PC ( 3.2 Ghz P4 HT, 512 mb ram, 128 x300se card)

I was just wondering how you rotate the main character...like in Vice City you would use the number keys and Tommy would turn in whatever direction you want. When I am trying to shoot some people or just run on the street I find it very annoying using the mouse because I use my right hand for the arrows on the keyboard. Any help?

so did anyone here install that hack to get to the sex scene? too bad for anyone living at home with the parents, i don't know who's not going to be aware of that and likely parents will freak and certainly not help their kids buy it.

I think that you need to switch the control to "Joypad" mode if you want to rotate with keys. It's kinda annoying, because if you want traditional camera controls like in GTA3 and VC, you need to be in "Joypad" mode, but if you want to be able to aim with the mouse, you need to be in "Mouse+Keys" mode.

Thanks, so I'll try putting it in Joypad mode. I always thought joypad mode was for if you wanted to use a joypad with it! It will work with the mouse and keyboard?

I also have a logitech cordless rumble wingman for my PC which I havent used in a long time...I finnally was able to take out the batteries they were all crusted over now whenI put new ones in it doesnt work :(

And abaxter, I think that SA is bad enough parents won't buy it for their kids anyways...even without the sex scene lol... I think that it's important that kids understand it's a game...if they take it too seriously then it turns into a problem.

When they rated this game AO my newspaper and the TV media completely ignored the cop killing stuff in the game. The newspaper also called for a banning or regulation of mods. They called me, a modder, a hacker and law-offending sexual monster. I cancelled the paper for that one.

AO is a joke. It's annoying as can be to sit here and watch Hillary on TV *****ing about the game and calling for more and more regulation on games and mods. I thought Democrats were the open-minded party and that the Republicans/Christians would be pissed. It seems the other way around. I hear only Dem's complaining when they and their media should be praising this game. When's the last time you played a game that correctly portrayed inner city life, featured a vast balance of minorities, had a black main character, and appealed to both city and rural communities? This is absurd especially when it comes from the party who shouldn't be complaining and the party that should is quiet leaving the industry and economy to regulate itself.

    This is brilliant: http://www.cafepress.com/gabsp

I played GTA:SA some today because it's so much fun. I have some sort of nude patch for the original The Sims too and a bunch of different models and such added on. I've not heard a single bad thing about that stuff.

GTA:SA rules. It's the biggest and longest game I've ever played. I still haven't beaten it although I do have a lot of stuff. Especially the airport; that's my favorite place in the game with all the different aircraft I can ride around in. :p

I personnaly love playing the game. It's fun to live that kind of life in the game. Since you don't want to be like that in real life.

In my opinion that's what video games are supposed to do. Take you places and let you accomplish things you can't do in real life. Hence the name *Game*.

    Hi,

I am playing the game in 1024x768x32, 1AA, medium detail with no lags on ATI MR9700 64MB, Pentium M 1,4 GHz, 512 MB RAM. Of course, I had to "overclock" the video card. Why the quotes? Because the card still runs below the specs, just higher than what ACER think it should be run at.

Haha, thats the beauty of having it on a Laptop. You can take it anywhere! ;)

    I shouldn't have any troubles running San Andreas with a X700 64mb should I?

None whatsoever (see my post above). I'd assume that if anything, X700 will beat a 9600.

    Have you played GTA3/GTAVC yet?

If not, the controls aren't very different. You have keys to move, shoot, enter/exit vehicle, change weapons, etc.

Overall they are not hard, however it depends on your preferred configuration. It seems that it's best oriented at using the right hand on the mouse to control the camera and aim the weapons and using the left hand on the keyboard to move, attack and others. That's on foot. Driving is basically with the arrows, like in most driving games.

There exists an option to set controls to "Joypad" mode, where you can use a joypad or a keyboard but not the mouse. Camera follows you and you can also control it manually with keys. Most weapons get auto-aim in this mode (you need to press lock-on key). I prefer this mode, however you cannot aim with the mouse in it, should you need it. Hence I sometimes find myself switching back and forth betwee joypad and mouse modes. Not the most convenient thing out there, but so far hasn't been terrible either.

I've been playing it for a while today. I just got it and installed it. It runs great! It's so much smoother than I had expected.

It's such a big environment, it's been fun just driving around and riding bikes. I have only done a few of the missions, but they are quite good.

I was trying to configure my game pad to work with the game but there were too many control things to setup, it wouldn't work very well on a PS2 controller with the way I had it set up. The controls are very easy to get used to.

I'm extremely happy with this game. I've played previous GTA games and this is, by far, the best one. I love riding the bikes.
