this problem blew my mind and literally makes me hating the laptop and hating myself

i am in 40% of the game and never had this problem before.
the laptop started overheating and now the game crashes when cpu reaches 70C, the game consumes 90% of the cpu not sure why
i repasted 2 weeks ago with zmstg2 any my laptop temps in normal usage "movies or chrome" 40C

any idea what's causing this behavior?

i am using throttlestop but i close it then restart the laptop before playing
    hp coolsense is uninstalled

    my cpu is 4712hq
    laptop is hp envy 15
    gtx 850m 4gb
    353.24
antivirus used is malwarebytes anti exploit and anti malware

tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, uninstalling antivirus, uninstalling hp coolsense "controls the laptop's fan", uninstalling the gpu driver the reinstall it

also, any recommended driver? 353.24 is the oem driver

EDIT: sometimes the game doesn't crash, but the game hangs and the laptop restarts itself like a bsod behaviour

For that processor 70c isn't even near overheating ... Are you sure it is the reason?

Trace back to when it worked. Then look carefully at the items. Me thinks its your paste.
    Good luck.

    How about other games.?
Does it do it at 70c for everything else also or just gta5.
Also you said laptop started overheating. 70c is not overheating by any means .

The game crashed for 15 times.. At all the 15 times it crashed when cpu temp reached 70C.. I had the same problem yesterday but after some time it didn't crash. Suddenly got the same crash again today

The cpu temperature reach 70 after 2 mins of playing

I have a 4800mq all stock and when I play gta5 my cpu temps run between 75-80 . Sometimes to 83 or so. I have everything maxed out though.
You should be able to run that cpu 85c without issue.
Post back when you try another game or games and let us know what you find. It's sounds like it something else causing the game to stop .

Did you check HP sub forum ... Most of the HPs I saw usually thermal throttled prematurely

I tried The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, the game didn't crash but the laptop restarted itself. just like it's unstable

but this happened when the fans worked at maximum speed, which occurs when temps reach 90C

EDIT: It was throttlestop working, no problem in skyrim

EDIT2: Gta v problem seems to be fixed. I am sure it will happen again.

Temps 70 for the gpu 80 for the cpu.

Not sure if I should repaste

EDIT3: happened again but I think it's a game problem now

It sounds like you're undervolting your CPU too low to me. If games like GTA V crashing about 15 times and at times you're getting BSOD type crashes then thats the problem. Then again GTA V did had a problem during certain missions like The Blitz Play that causes game crashes when switching characters

-60mV here using throttlestop .. But the game crashes and bsod occurs even though throttlestop is stopped and closed

I passed this mission i am in Mr Richards mission

It shouldnt be crashing with that undervolt, my CPU is undervolted to -80mV but only on "Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset" not the cache since it causes BSODs for me when playing games.

I am undervolting -60mv cpu voltage offset
    -60mv cache
    -100mv Intel gpu

I will check the cache hopefully fixes my problems

I think thats your problem there, You're undervolting your IGPU too low and its kinda pointless to undervolt it IMO. You can try to put it back to stock settings or back off the undervolting of the IGPU a bit and see what happens

i will reset all the settings then undervolt the cpu voltage offset -80 and check if the problem still exits.

btw it's good to see an hp envy user here :D

EDIT: -75mV was stable for me, but didn't fix the game.

Gonna say its the game itself but it would be better to try other games and see what happens. Maybe try it on stock clocks, if it still crashes then its the game and not your undervolt

I havent had many crash issues with GTA V with its latest patches but still gotten a couple of BSODs at times but not lately

Actually i think it's coolsense problem, i installed coolsense version 2 and didn't have any crash.

i think coolsense 2 is better than 2.2

But i was playing before on 2.2 without problems so that's weird :D

    I play on stock volts

Could be, Mines is Version 2.1 and its always off and disabled on startup.

Like i said im leaning towards its the game itself. Trying other games will narrow down the problem

I had some CTDs with GTA V, but mine were fixed with simple DirectX reinstall.
Good luck finding a solution, OP.

It was the HP's coolsense utility, after downgrading to version 2 i didn't have a single crash. thanks!

Yeah me too, but it's fixed so that's good for me :D i am thankful for this problem because it made me realise how much better is coolsense 2 than 2.2/2.1. it keeps my temps under 40 for normal usage which is very good for me.
