Bring your draw distance down GTA4 is poorly optimized for the pc go figure since its a port from the consoles. GTA4 is hard on your CPU so bringing you view distance down should help. as far as actual graphics u sould still be able to run them on high.

It should also be noted that the latest patch (which GFWL requires you to install in order to play) actually made performance worse, not better. My desktop (Q9550 and Radeon 4890) can easily max out Crysis but gets as low as 20-23 fps in some areas of GTA4.

With the 1.04 patch, I don't recall my framerates ever dipping that low.

What is the cpu utilization in the ingame benchmark, and what FPS are you getting?

    Could be ATI's drivers, too.

Without posting all of your current GTA IV settings, what ATI Driver version you are using and your GTA IV benchmark results we can only guess where the problem could be.

If he got it from steam then it should have the latest patches. What settings are you running it at?

hey guys thanks for your help on getting me to play gta4 faster

well i dont know what ati driver i have but the specs are in the top thread...

for those people who thinks i downloaded pirated games like GTA4 well i have actually paid this through steam. i know pirated games are not worth too download because there are risks involved. why not get a real working game instead of a copy?

i am running on medium settings of all of them and it works a little bit better. how can i update my ati driver? thanks in advance...

No one mentioned anything about piracy and Bedis, I wonder if you would still say the same if you were a Dev who had been working hard on a title for 5 years of your life only to have it pirated daily.

The problem with Steam is that it will be using the latest patch which really reduces performance in GTA IV a lot. In some cases your frame rates can almost halve from patch 1.0.04 compared to 1.070.

Just throw the game away, and never, ever support Rockstar by buying such pathetic optimized games from them. This game is a joke. Game developers QQ because of the piracy on PC games, but they don't even bother to do a decently optimized game for us to be worth the money.

GTA IV has gotten better since the original release, but 7 patches is a bit much.

I could run the game with my 4650 at medium settings @ 1024x768, but could not really push it beyond that (but I think it was more cpu-bound than anything).......

guys it just cost 20 bucks on steam i know it can be cheaper at some other stores but thats what i prefer. i would rather support the developers instead of downloading free high end games... im not spoiled like you pirated scum bags... support the developers man..

and thank you guys for commenting on bedis reply. he has no clue what hes talking about...

i never knew steam would patch that often to make GTA4 slow.. anyways i guess for now i have to do low settings. i like steam because of the community they have for multi players. i used to play cs but now i dont know it feels like no one plays cs anymore these days..

    @ Satyrion

off topic but i like your hair i wish my hair was like that :p

You should be able to run it on high details but set down the drawing distance or whatever its called, like all the 3 sliders. On the xbox those slider things are set to like 10 of 100 on each or something, so you dont have to put em very high and the game will still look good.

If ur the asian guy in ur avatar you should have no problem at all styling your hair the way you want :)
