GTA4: for everyone missing textures/models

Ok you guys, after some google-searching in found this solution for it:

Okay, here's what I did. It's ALREADY been suggested, but I failed to follow the instructions. Here are the steps!

1) Go to "Add and Remove Programs" and scroll down to the N section. Uninstall all Nvidia drivers (there were two of them on mine. One was "nvidia display driver" and the other was "nvidia performance driver", both of them I had recently installed trying to fix this problem). Make sure they are uninstalled.

2) Download and install driver sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

3) THIS STEP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (all the !! marks are because I'm excited this works). You need to restart your computer in SAFE MODE. This doesn't work unless you restart your computer *** in SAFE MODE ***. Usually you do this by pressing F8 when it tells you to about 10-30seconds after you first push the power button to start up your computer. <DO THIS, ITS THE MOST IMPORTANT!


(After you are logged onto safe mode, it may say "you need to restart to blah de blah de blah about new hardware." Tell it no, you don't have to restart.

4) Now that you are in safe mode and logged onto windows normally, run Driver cleaner. Search for ATI display drivers and Nvidia display drivers. Then hit the "Clean" button. Now close the program and reopen it, and double-check the same steps. Search for ATI and nvidia display drivers, and make sure that none are found. When this is done, restart your computer back into regular XP.

5) After I rebooted into normal mode, I ran driver sweeper a third time just to make sure. It found NO files for ati and nvidia display drivers.

6) Now I installed 180.60 (not 180.70.) Other people installed 180.48 and got it working, others isntalled 180.70 and got it working. Mine worked fine with 180.60. I assume the version of driver you use doesn't matter, so try with whatever you can find for your version of windows.

7) Restart after you have installed the drivers.

8) FLIP OUT when you realize that your textures are showing up again. I almost decapitated myself out of rage, but luckily I got this fixed in the nick of time.

What about for Vista users?

I ran the driver sweeper under safe mode and got some errors.

Just waiting for patch now.

Yeah, I've seen this exact post on about three different forums. While I'm sure it works for some, it has not worked for me and others. I have wondered if it's a Vista thing. At any rate, I'll be waiting for the said patch.

 

I've got Vista (home premium, 32 Bits, Servicepack 1) and it worked!

 

I used this method on Vista Ultimate 64bit - worked perfectly thanks an absolute ton for the post and getting this awesome game to work on my pc - cheers

 

You all are luckier than I am. I've tried this method twice and still could not get the textures to load. Enjoy the game!

 

It doesn't work for me either. I've tried every version of driver with DriverSweeper...

 

you must run driversweeper by run as administrator method for vista64.

 

:sigh: Tried everything. No textures for me either.

follow the guide above use RivaTuner "reset all driver" settings and rebooted your system. it work for me

 

RIVA TUNER worked for me as well

 

can't seem to reset the settings for gta in riva tuner 2.11, it doesn't show up(the reset thing). any tips?

 

You need to use riva tuner 2.20

 

did that...nothing...what drivers are you using? i have dox's 180.70

 

On one post at the Steam forum, they talk about some causes for the missing textures issue. RAM might influence missing texture troubles. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=762080

 

works for me here with my own drivers.
No need to uninstall and run driver sweeper,
should just work with the drivers installed now.

just select the option to reset driver to default settings
reboot
and should work!

my own exp:
then do not use rivatuner to adjust the 3d settings as it will be missing textures again, use the nvidia control panel only.

 

EDIT: that did the trick! rivatuner for the win

 

After using rivatuner I get the missing textures bug only once in a while. So the problem is still there, but only sometimes it occurs. I also have another problem, because when I dónt have the bug, the textures are loading slow, so I cant look far and sometimes I can see through a road or house. My pc can handle the minimum demands and I tried graphics low and high.

Any tips?

 

i got the textures back using Rivatuner also, found a link in another thread after trying for a good 2 days, but haven't had problems since.
