what is the difference from a performance/price standpoint? Notebookcheck ranks them close together, so what niches do they fill?

GTS360M is clocked higher, but has fewer SP's and likely ROPs and TMUs. GTS360M is on 40nm so it'll be cooler and less power hungry

Beyond that though, we don't have any other details on performance

    GTS 360M = rebadged GTS 260M < GTX 260M

    Even though it's GDDR5, it's 128-bit vs 256-bit GDDR3 with the GTX 260M.

Also 96 shaders on GTS 360m vs 112 on the GTX 260m, but the 360m is clocked higher.

Doesnt the 360 also support dx 10.1? Another card from Nvidia thats a little underwhelming I guess. The GTX260 has been around a while but depending on your config I think it can still holds its own agains most of the games out there right now. I run most of my games maxed @ 1080p except for a few newer ones and I still get excellent performance in 900p.

I forgot about power consumption though. The GTS 360M should be much more efficient than the GTX 260M, because it is a 40nm card.

If you're considering the GTX 260M, however, Mass Effect 2 runs beautifully on my computer at 1920x1200. Just sayin.

GDDR5 with 128 bit has shown to perform better than GDDR3 with 256 bit in the applications that have it.

regardless, its mostly at high resolutions where 128 bit cards start to perform poorly should they be a good card otherwise.

    1680 x 1050 is a perfect resolution for '128 bit' gaming.

^if that so, doesn't mean it will run great on 1366x768?
i mean, if gtx 260m can play all high (even some of them were very high) in that res, will gts 360m play at least all high in 1366x768?

    8 rops vs 16 rops in gtx 260m. that's what's crippling it.

They seem to be about equal at lower resolutions, such as 1366x768, but, as we saw in the 8600m vs 7950m gtx comparisions, the 256-bit prevailed at the higher resolutions (1920x1200). If you want to game at higher resolutions go for the 260, otherwise get the 360.

Check out some of the game videos from GenTech featuring the G51 from Asus using the GTS360M. They have a youtube channel. One playing Crysis Warhead with smooth framerate.

for that price , u can get Asus G73... but u need to buy it online...it will cost about $1600 with shipping but will be way more powerful than GTS360M and GTX260M... you can look at it on xoticpc.com or gentechpc.com... consider this option too...

ur dreaming... GTS360M can nver beat 260M... u haven't used the standard res when benchmarking... also G73's 5870 will trash both to ground... do ur benchmark at 1280X1024...

I highly doubt that benchmark is accurate. We don't know if he was running overclocked or at what resolution. Back when I had a G51J-A1 I compared my benchmark results with a G51JX-A1 owner and last I recall the GTX 260M was holding its ground, not to forget both systems were Core i7's.

That's 3dmark 05 guys. Nothing to see here.

3dmark Vantage is the only one that's relevant.

We've seen enough what the GTS 360M can do and the hardware tells the same story.

    optimatical :

If you want a comparison of 260m gtx stock clocks for gaming.

post results for games with in game benchmarks, then I will post mine

cuz i have a 260m gtx and im pretty sure your 05 result was with heavy overclocking. My 260m gtx gets 17024 with a fairly nice overclock, so I highly doubt your getting 17000 without a major overclock

Since this has been resolved and the thread is not going anywhere, this thread is closed.

In the future, do not start "x graphics card vs. y graphics card" threads . . . post questions like that in the Mobile Graphics Card Info Page.

    Thank you.
