I have a GTX 260m card. I downloaded MSI afterburnner and want to try overclocking. never done overclocking. Anything I need to keep an eye on to ensure I don't damage the card or computer?

temps do not allow it to break 90C on load if you want it to last. 105C is max before it throttles and damage starts to occur. Also most can't be overvolted. and on stock volts max clock runs from 580-620 core. make sure it is stable in games. I can reach 620 core but only 580 in most games sometimes less. shader is 1450. Keep the values locked. Also vram is maxed at 1000 depending on model. 900-975 is a good value. try going a google search limiting to forum.notebookreview.com for 260m or 260m overclocking

A GTX 260m will throttle its self long before damage happenas. Dont think that if you hit 105c your card will self destruct.

Ideally you want to keep it under 80c as a max load temp. Higher is where you start to see artifacts and throttling. Try bumping things up 10-20mhz at a time and check for stability and temps. Also dont mess with voltages thats when you start getting much higher temps and you can burn out your card with the voltages if you go to high.

260m is VERY old. You shouldn't overclock that dinosaur because it already runs hotter than what it should be. It's time to get a new lappy. The 660m and 680m practically beg to be overclocked.

yeah i gotta disagree a bit ha... the 260m was a good gpu! I had very good performance with it and it's still running strong in the laptop I sold to my buddy last year. As for overclocks, it does overclock fine but as others have mentioned just pay attention to the temps. I wouldn't mess with voltage at all.

GTX 260M is still a pretty decent card and with a overclock it can still hang around with some of the lower end Keplers. It might only have 1gig of memory but the 246bit interface helps with the bandwidth. It may struggle with some new games at 1920X1080 maxed out but its still a heck of a card and overclocking it will help give it a little more life in terms of playing some newer games with a little more eye candy.

This is what overclocking is all about. Getting the most out of your hardware and money. Not buying somthing that will play what you want maxed out then overclocking the liveing heck out of it to gain 20fps ontop of the 215 it runs the game at already.

Im all for you man. Over clock it watch your temps and see about improving the cooling on your system and lets see how much performance you can get out of it and what new cards you can hang with. The GTX 260m was an amazing mobile card when released and i know a few people still using them today. They oc'ed them right out of the box and used them as main gaming rigs playing atleast 5 hours a day every day. Damn fine GPU.

thanks, and yes the card is still fine for me don't play too many games but for hawx and NFS it's still good enough. May up-grade in the future since it's possible on the m15x. What pgm should I use to monitor my GPU temp?
Also is there a simple pgm that will tell me what the FPS are so I can see if the over clocking is helping?
    thanks
