The GTX 260M is infamous for having heat issues. It's load operational temperatures are around 93-102 C. However, people usually hit around 96-98 C on maximum load. In your case you might want to clean those vents cause 101 C is just about pushing it in the safety net. However, being in the high 90's is the norm for this powerful card.

If you are like me and be a gutsy guy. I would do a full dissemble of the unit's HSF and not only air can out the dust but also apply a good layer of Arctic Silver 5.

Honestly, I'd pick up some IC Diamond (ICD7), it's better than AS5 in tests I've run, like 5-7C cooler. My GTX 260m never exceeds 85C.

I'm planning on selling it, as soon as I'm positive I'm keeping my Envy 14. :D

One disclosure though if you're interested in buying, a few weeks ago I spilled some wine on my keyboard. I disassembled and thorughly cleaned my system, even though there weren't any signs of contamination. Seems only the keyboard and trackpad were affected. I ran a 24+ hour torture test (3DMark06 + Prime 95 running at the same time) with zero issues. I've played Bad Company 2 quite a bit too and still runs great. I even put IC Diamond thermal paste and seems to have dropped temps a few degrees C from the AS5 I had on there when I put in the quad core.

I have replaced the keyboard with a brand new one and it works great. Will be ordering the trackpad on Monday directly from Sager since I can't find it anywhere else. I rarely use the trackpad anyways, always have a mouse. But want it to be fully functional.

I just feel I need to be honest is all.

The card itself isn't to blame, at least not entirely.

The GTX 260m in my laptop hasn't gone over 86C in a game, ever (1.5 hours of Crysis Warhead, 83F room ambient, passive cooling only). Yet other people with my model of laptop and with an underclocked GPU will hit mid 90s under less strenuous conditions.

It's all a matter of proper cooling in the laptop in question. I had to do quite a few hardware mods and tweaks to keep my GPU this cool.

Well, you do have a Clevo, and Clevo cooling is always spectacular.

    Hi mate,

I got a P7908u, and my GTX 260M was getting sometimes to 90C, it was ok to me.

But some weeks ago I installed The Sims 3 to my sister, and everything was at the maximum settings.

When she was playing I looked to HWMonitor and noticed it got to 100C+, 102C I think. I hope the GPU didn't get damaged in any way, please God.

Immediately she stopped playing and I lowered the settings. Some days ago I cleaned my vents, both GPU and CPU, and it seems to be running a lot better now, I didn't do any tests, but I think the temperatures lowered 10C I think (both for GPU and CPU). It idles at 41-49C as well and I am planning to do a custom cooler (already bought everything, including 2 120mm coolers).

Note: I cleaned the vents just by blowing air from my mouth. Keep in mind that you have to stop the vents from rotating, so put something there to stop it, because if it spins too fast it can be damaged, I think, so be cautious.

    Good luck.
