I'm looking at two recertified laptops on newegg and both have gotten me interested.
One has a intel dual core 2.53 processor with GTX 260m
    while the other has a AMD A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) with a 6750m.

    Newegg.com - Recertified: ASUS G71GX-RX05 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 17.1" Wide XGA+ 6GB Memory DDR2 800 500GB HDD 5400rpm Super Multi DVD RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
    Newegg.com - Recertified: HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX Refurbished Notebook AMD A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 640GB HDD Blu-Ray Drive AMD Radeon HD 6750M

Which of these combos do you guys think offers the most gaming capabilites?

Well I have a gtx 260m and I can tell you that for gaming it is mediocre. But it is known to be better than the 6750m. So if I were you I would go for the asus. Since it is a gaming laptop. I have an Alienware M15x and I am really happy with it. The HP isn't for gaming.

But I am going to tell you to build a gmaing desktop because you can get so much better parts and quality with it. That is what I am going to do for 700 dollars.

Hmm they seem surprisingly similar in performance using vantage scores. If the radeon is the GDDR5 version, they should perform on a similar level since the GTX260m in the Asus is underclocked.

The 6750m is actually pretty capable with a little OCing. The CPU in the Asus will probably hold it back though, so if you had to choose between the two I would go for the HP.

Though you could always spend a little more and get a g53sw for like $800 which would blow away both laptops.

They will perform similarly, so I would simply go for the 6750m, simply becayse its newer tech

I would go with the HP even though it will die faster because it has blu ray and a much better CPU

Ditto. And a newer 6750M will likely perform better than 260M in future games because of new driver optimization, a much older 260M will benefit less from driver update.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm looking to play source games, swtor, and rift. I've looked at the notebookcheck.com and it says it should have playable framrates, but I was wondering if you guys had any expierence with any similar laptops.

6750M is a very capable card for gaming at 720p, you should be able to run most modern games on medium to high settings at 720p save a few really demanding ones like witcher 2 and metro 2033.

Also, the 6750M has DX11 support whereas the 260M doesn't. You probably won't want to run games in DX11 if you have the option on those cards but it's nice to know that you could should you feel like it.

def the HP, the performance of the cards is very similar, i don't know what vantage scores and other stuff tells you but i have a MBP with the 6750m and my roommate has an Alienware with the 260m and we play all the games at the same settings. So they're pretty much similar performance wise but the HP is a much better laptop as it is newer will have perks like better battery life, lighter and thinner, will not heat as much(the asus is an old gaming laptop with an old processor and older GPU will definitely generate more heat regardless of the cooling systems of both laptops). Get the HP you won't regret it.
