I will be updating this thread throughout the day with Benchmarks for this card. Card and laptop using stock drivers. Specs below:
17.3" 16:9 LED 1920 x 1080 X-Glass Screen
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM 1.60 GHz
4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 RAM at 1333MHz
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 285M 1GB GDDR3
Haven't yet seen any info on this card's performance so thought I'd share my experience with it so far.
Vsync
Vsync does not appear to be working in some of the games I tested - even if I attempted to force it through the Nvidia Control panel - possible driver issue that I thought I should mention but it is completely random as to what games it seems to be affecting (hence the low 'increase' in FPS I appear to have had with some games in the following tests once I turned this feature off).

For comparisons. Benchmarks are nothing if you got nothing to compare to
Ken at GenTech PC posted his overclocked Vantage for the Sager 8690 with i7 920 extreme.
HD5870 on a G73 with a price that suggest it's a mid-range, scratch that, introductory gamer laptop. So cheap.

Just played Crysis for the first time ever - full 1920x1080 at all high and it ran smoothly at over 30FPS - even cranked up the post processing effects to very high and it didn't falter much. Let me turn fraps back on and I'll go at it again - proper min avg max FPS benchmarks to follow -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the 5870 will crash the 285m. i had the 280m gtx sli. and the 280m gtx single and overclock isn't comparable to the 5870 single.
-
Well, Dirt 2 on Ultra at 1920x1080 seems to be running pretty well - no drops below 30FPS.
Then again, post processing above medium is locked out for me as its only a DX10 card so not completely comparable with the 5870.
Again, sorry for the lack of real benchmarks - never had a gaming PC before so am having a massive gaming session before I move on with the important stuff. -
Great.
You gonna run all benchmarks at full res?
Should be fun to see what the results are. -
- DX11 with Ultra Settings
- With 10.3, ViciousXUSMC reported getting averate 30-32 FPS with Ultra DX11.
- On high with no AA Dirt 2 gets around average 45 FPS.

and my settings are as above apart from my native resolution being 1600x900 and my CPU being the 1.73 Ghz Core i7-820QM.
The following are my benchmark results:
With Realizm IV 6.2 Installed I get:
With the Original GTA IV install I get:
Edit: I will redo the benchmarks with the Realizm IV enabled later on, but with all of my scripts disabled because they can take up a lot of CPU cycles and slightly reduce performance. -
Will do all that soon - how best to go about it though? I'll probs use Fraps but is there any specific settings I should enable? How long should I have it run for (currently have it set to 180 seconds)?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
caqn people run a couple games and max it out. 1920*1200 preferbly but not everyone has that res so its cool. but games like
prototype
ninja blade
bionic commando
farcry2
dmc4
and many more real game instead of syntenic benchmarks. -
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
dont record just use the benchmarking part and it will save your stuff.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i have some runs myself of re5 with my 9800m gtx and 280m but only in sli. i would like to see what single card can do.
-
Sure thing - I'll install DMC4 for you soon and run that - off to run the batman benchmark now and I'll post that soon.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
thanks man.
-
Argh - The CD key box at the back of the manual is blank... That may be an issue... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you put mix instead of min. lol.
also farcry2 even though with my 280m single stock i got 40fps average and my 9800m i got 30 stock and 40fps overclocked.
what other games you have.
pm'd about issue -
Just downloaded the RE5 benchmark and will install this once I've installed DMC4.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh man. the more the better. but i know you want to enjoy your laptop as well. we can compare gpu's if you like also. i have most of them. not all.
i dont have batman yet but can you do a maxed out 8aa run also. -
I put up DMC4 just now - 16x AA seemed a bit excessive but it works well. Annoyingly dips below 50FPS at some points though. Probs work fine with 8x instead.
Will do the Resi 5 bench after dinner - I'll have it up in around 45 minutes -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no dmc4 is a real stress with 16x. but put it up anyway. the more the better.
-
Also, just noticed that the laptop was set to 'balanced' power mode. I remember that my old laptop's performance would be crippled under anything but high performance and while I've switched to that now with this one, do you think it could have impacted the results at all? -
Can you do 3dmark benchmarks as well?
-
Posted the RE5 benchmark and am currently downloading steam games (namely GTA4) to bench next. Might do a Crysis run later this evening once I'm done wth Steam. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
thanks. with re5 can you do aa and no aa.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
variable it is more real world.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no aa and 8aa. i dont think you can choose 16aa
-
I'll do that later tomorrow.
Just played some Mass Effect 2 - runs like a dream maxed out at around a constant 53FPS in combat. Loving it so far -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
nice nice. have some fun with your machine just when you fire up a game, tell us what you get.
also what driver are you using? -
Tried running borderlands right now but it went terribly - can't even get the FPS into the double digits. If I can run Crysis on High, I must be able to max out this game. Any idea what's up? Apparently my Graphics Card drivers are up to date so it's not that... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i havent tried that driver. try using the most up to dat driver and see what happens. i never tried borderlands on my 280m but my 4870 ran it fine i think it is a driver issue.
-
Borderlands runs fine now - just had to patch it (was on v1.0 previously) and now runs at around 40FPS average all maxed out at 1920x1080, yet to dip below 30FPS and I'm 2 hours into it. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
good to hear.
dont forget to update your original post. -
-
It's definetely 187.71. I think that's Clevo driver. You can try other drivers from lv2go.com, just don't try latest nvidia, 19x.xx, as the powermizer doesn't work.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
as long as you are happy with your machine and can max out all the game you want to play, dont look at other machines. i would of put up runs of my 4870 crossfire, 9800m gtx, 280m gtx sli, and 3870 crossfire but i'm just observing. so keep at it.

More benchmarks uploaded btw -

I'd expect the next mobile series to be rebranded again, no idea if DX11 compliant but hopefully better. But doubt it will run as cool as or energy efficient as the HD5870. -

You have more upgrade potential in the W860CU with the MXM 3.0B format compared to the Asus G73 because the Asus has a proprietary format. You also have the potential of installing the 5870 into your Sager anyway.
Either way, you are getting really good performance so I wouldn't worry about it.
