when it says gtx 570m 3000mb for MSI laptop. that means it's a SLI right?

anyways. Just wondering if gtx 570m is worth the money. GTX 560m sli seems pricey just to out nudge the 6990m. 6990m Crossfire seems to cost quite a bit taking the price of a laptop to $1900.

So basically MSI has what I assume to be a SLI GTX 570m (3000MB) for $1650ish.

    is the price worth it?

If it says SLI then it's SLI.
If it doesn't then it's not. There are different versions of the 570m, 1.5gb and 3gb (the one you are looking at), which have the same performance. The only reason to get the 3gb of vram is for gaming on multiple monitors.

No MSI that I know of offers xfire/SLI, and they don't offer 570 in SLI that I know of...

    To be clear:

The 3000MB refers to the machine having a single 570M with 3GB of total memory, not that the machine has two 1.5GB 570Ms.

Since MSI is the only one to use the 570M then there are no 570M SLI setups.

Also when SLI is used your memory is not doubled since an exact copy is kept in each frame buffer.

    So 2x GTX580M 2GB cards in SLI = 2x2GB of graphics memory (not 4GB).

Confusing but the difference is important.

Will technically this is wrong. Your memory and bandwidth is effectively doubled, otherwise gaming performance wouldn't be able to be basically doubled on many games in terms of total framerate. Each card basically has alternating frames rendered. So GPU 1 would do frames 1,3,5,7 etc while GPU 2 would do frames 2,4,6,8 etc, so whether we want to be technical and call this 2x2BG, or 4gb of graphics memory, in total its still 4gb thats being processed. Your still potentially doubling the information processed and rendered.

You're memory read bandwidth is doubled, both have to duplicate their writes however.

So notice I said it should be called 2x2GB because yes you get some advantages of two sets but not a storage increase.
