My video card is failing (580M), and I'm looking to replace it with a 675M or 680M. Although, I'm a little hesitant to get the 680M since it costs $800. I'm worried about shelling out that much. What if the video card fails again? I know it seems counter intuitive, but I'm actually leaning towards the 680M. The 675M isn't that much cheaper either--$500. Plus, several posts have mentioned that it's simply a rebranded 580M. I'm assuming that the 680M will run cooler; thereby, lasting longer and making it the better buy. What do you guys think?

680m is almost as fast as sli 675m. Faster if u get a modded vbios. It also runs in the low 70s in most rigs. Definitely 680m

It shouldn't. It won't? I mean unless you play with stupid OC, overvolts and do weird stuff and paste bad, I see no reason for the GPU to fail, especially if you get a warrant.

    Buy the 680M it's a beast!

And yes it runs exceptionally cool, the coolest of all mobile GPU's actually

675m is pretty much a 580m. Get the 680m. You won't be disappointed.

The benchmarks on the 680m are amazing. For reference, the 675m has the exact same specs as the 580m. It's not pretty much a rebadged 580m. It is a rebadged 580m. The 580m seems to be very similar to a GTX 560 Ti desktop card with slower clocks. Where as the 680m is very similar to a GTX 670 desktop card with slower clocks. The 680m also has the same power consumption as the 580m, but it is a much more capable card. Finally, you can get the 680m with 4GB of RAM. In the end it's your money, but I think you get a lot more bang for your buck with the 680m. Here's a link to the wikipedia article with specifictions for pretty much all of the Nvidia cards: Comparison of Nvidia graphics processing units - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, I actually used to OC, but realized that I didn't need it since the 580M was already plenty fast. Even without OC for a while, over just the past month, the video card has been crashing more frequently as time passes. One thing to note is that I didn't go with any special paste. I just got whatever came installed by default.

Thanks for the recommendations. I went with the 680M! The upgrade kit comes with IC Diamond 7, so hopefully that'll also help out this time around.
