I am using the NVIDIA driver version 304.79 but when I go to the 3D settings page there is only "On" or "Off" under vertical sync.

Shouldn't I have an "adaptive" option?

They removed the adaptive option because it was buggy. Try checking the nVIDIA forums if you are insecure or confused.

They might implement it again, not sure

Ok thanks. I can actually use the adaptive vsync option in NVidia Inspector, but not sure which one takes precedence, inspector or the NVidia control panel (if I have adaptive vsync on in nvidia inspector and normal vsync on in nvidia control panel, which one gets applied?)

Too bad it appears the nvidia forums are still down after their recent security problems. I was looking forward to trying out this new adaptive vsync. :(

Download nvidia inspector - you can enable adaptive vsync through that

I assume you confirmed that nvidia inspector overrides settings found in nvidia control panel? What do you think of the adaptive vsync?

Actually it seems that neither nvidia control panel or inspector "override" each other, they just both work together - the most recent change you make will persist. It is less confusing to just use inspector only. It has a huge list of game profiles so you can easily change the settings for that game only.

I really like adaptive vsync. For games where your framerate can drop to ~45fps it works really well. No tearing and no stuttering. I also find that setting the frame rate limiter to 58fps helps to reduce mouse lag, but for some reason you still need to have vsync on to avoid tearing.

The best example for me is Crysis 2 with DX11, ultra settings and high-res textures. The game will often run at 60fps for a long section, then it might drop to 40fps for a while but the adaptive vsync means that it still looks smooth.

    No problem :)

Also worth mentioning that the 302.77 driver does have the adaptive vsync option in nvidia control panel.

I changed to 302.77 because I had some crashes when using 304.79.
